Hello dear Jewelry friends, I hope you're all doing well. In my first post of the year, I want to share some earrings I carved from wood. The goal is to make a complete set, since I made the necklace last year, and I wanted to add a pair of earrings as a gift for my daughter. These are made with reddish-colored wood and finished with a glossy varnish. The process was very simple, and I wanted to share it with you. I hope you like them. Let's get started!
Hola queridos amigos de Jewelry, espero que se encuentren muy bien, en esta mi primera publicación del año quiero compartir unos pendientes que hice tallados en madera, el objetivo es hacer un juego completo ya que en el año pasado había realizado el collar, así que para regalárselos a mi hija quise agregar también un par de pendientes. Estos están realizado con madera de color rojizo y en el final barniz brillante, el proceso fue muy sencillo y aquí quiero compartirlo con ustedes, espero que les guste. Comencemos!

This year it wasn't easy to get wood; I used what little I had on the last projects of the year, and some carpentry shops weren't open. So I started looking through my used things for any old scraps of wood that might work for my purpose. I found some reddish, very soft wood; it was small, but it was just what I needed. So what I did was take some fairly large pieces to make pendants, clean them, and then I started drawing the outline of the treble clef on each one.
Este año no fue fácil conseguir madera, la que tenía la gaste en los últimos trabajos del año y algunas carpinterías no han abierto, así me puse a buscar en mis cosas usadas algún viejo retazo de madera que me pudiera servir a mi propósito, encontré madera rojiza y muy suave, era de tamaños pequeños pero era justo lo que necesitaba. entonces lo que hice fue tomar algunos pedazos de un tamaño considerable para hacer pendientes, los limpie, y después de eso comencé a dibujar en cada uno la silueta de la clave musical de Sol.

Once the wood selection and preparation steps are complete, I begin choosing the right blade. I'll use this sharp, triangular-tipped one. My primary goal is to score the entire line with the blade's edge, as if cutting a slice of cake, and then cut horizontally. This is the process I'm following in these initial steps. After scoring that area, I begin carving the wood from the inside. I do this to prevent the wood from losing density when cutting the edges; if it does, the wood is more likely to be damaged.
Una vez realizados los pasos de selección de la madera y la preparación, comienzo ya a elegir con que cuchilla cortar, así que utilizaré esta de punta afilada y triangular, mi objetivo primario es marcar con el filo de la hoja todo el trazo, como si cortara un pedazo de pastel, y luego cortar de forma horizontal, este es le proceso que voy siguiendo en estos primeros pasos. Luego de hacer señalado esa parte voy tallando la madera en el interior, lo hago así para que la madera no pierda densidad al momento de cortar los bordes, si esto sucede es más probable que se dañe la madera.

Then I begin to carve, as I mentioned before, the openings inside the piece. I do this carefully, especially at the top, where the space is smaller. In that case, I use other tools, such as a wire sharpened at the tip, to be more precise in the cut.
Entonces comienzo a tallar como había dicho antes las aberturas al interior de la pieza, aquí lo voy haciendo con cuidado, especialmente en la parte superior, donde el espacio es más pequeño, en ese caso utilizo otros instrumentos como un alambre afilado en la punta para ser más específico en el corte.

Next, I work on the outer part, that is, the edges. As I mentioned before, the carving here is horizontal, since an initial cut was made inwards, like cutting a cake. You can see how the relief of the silhouette gradually emerges. Once it's visible, it's easier to cut away the excess material, which is less dense. After that, I use sandpaper to finish shaping and polishing it.
Seguidamente voy por la parte exterior, es decir por los bordes, como dije anteriormente el tallado aquí es de forma horizontal, ya que se había hecho un primer corte hacia adentro, como cortando un pastel. Así pueden ver como poco a poco va saliendo el relieve de la silueta, una vez que ya es visible es más fácil cortar el borde sobrante el cual ya tienes menos densidad. Luego de eso, con papel de lija termino de darle forma y pulirlo.

I used the first earring I finished as a template for the second, so on the other piece of wood I drew the design and repeated the entire process step by step. I cut along the outline of the design inwards, then removed the center piece of wood, then cut horizontally, and finally removed the edges to create the complete shape.
Con el primero de los pendientes que terminé lo utilicé como medida para hacer el segundo, así que en el otro pedazo de madera hice el dibujo y repetí todo el proceso anterior paso a paso. Cortar el trazo del dibujo hacia adentro y luego extrare el centro de madera, desúes de forma horizontal y por último hasta quitar los bordes y tener la forma completa.

Then I sanded the second piece I made, preparing each one for immersion in the varnish. I gave each piece three coats of varnish to ensure it was well protected and shiny. Finally, I attached the rings, and that's how it turned out.
Luego a la pieza que hice en segundo lugar también la voy puliendo con el papel de lija para que cada una sea sumergida en el barniz. A cada pieza le di 3 capas de barniz para que quedara bien protegida y brillante, por último le puse las argollas y así ha quedado finalizado.
And that's how we transformed a piece of wood into a piece of jewelry with so much meaning!
