"What are you doing on the balcony?"
"Nothing! I am just having some time in the fresh air."
"Fresh air? In the evening...Lol. We live in the city darling and you know the rate of pollution here."
"That's none of your concern, so you leave!"
"What? Are you mad?" Why are you behaving like this? "
This is what my cousin(Saba) said to me when I asked her the reason for being on the balcony in the evening. I was shocked to hear her reply as she never talked to me like this before. I could see her uneasiness so I thought it better to leave at the moment.
We lived in the same house as it was a double-story house. So next day, I again saw her on the balcony, but I never made any move and noticed her secretly. She was doing something with her head down. I decided to see, what she was doing. But as soon as I stepped on the balcony, she immediately hid something behind her.
"What you are hiding behind?"
"Nothing! I am just looking at that e sunset. Isn't it beautiful?"
"Yes! It's absolutely beautiful. "
I was well aware that she wouldn't reveal the truth so I didn't argue. I went to my room, but still, my mind was thinking about her.
"What was she hiding? Something is wrong, I should try to know the truth." I said to myself.
My curiosity increased so I decided to spy on her. For the next two days, I kept going to the balcony to find the truth, but she continuously lied to me. One day I went into the balcony before her and hid myself behind the wall. She came and immediately pulled out a phone from her pocket. I was shocked to see the phone in her hand.
"From where did she get this phone? " I said to myself.
As teenagers, we were not allowed to have mobile phones and it was strictly prohibited in our family. So this was surprising for me. I came out and asked her about the phone.
"From where did you get this phone?"
"This is my friend's cellphone. "
"O, please! Don't lie. I am watching you for so many days. So now tell me the truth."
"It's of my friend, if you still have doubt, go and ask her."
"Tell me the name and I will ask her in the school."
"I will tell you in the morning."
"But I want to know now."
Arguing with each other, we don't know when our voice become loud and our cousin(her brother) hears us.
"What's the matter?"
"Nothing bro! We are just talking about our test."
"Don't try to fool me, I know you both are talking about a cellphone. "
Hearing this we both were scared, but before I could have spoken, my cousin immediately said that this phone belonged to her. She put the whole blame on me and told her brother that she was scolding me for this. I was astonished to see what she said. My ears couldn't believe what she said.
"How could you do this? Are you in your senses? I said to her, but still, she was blaming me.
"Brother, I don't know anything about the phone. She was using the phone on the balcony and I was asking her about it." I said to him.
My cousin asked me to hand over the phone to him, but I again told him that the phone belonged to Saba and she still had it. My cousin was confused and he said,
Why you both are blaming each other? Give me the phone and I will find the truth myself.
"Go and bring your phone! I will check the phone myself." He said.
"Okay! Give me 5 minutes, I will bring it from the room." My cousin said.
"It is still in your pocket, then why you are lying? " I said to her.
But she immediately ran to her room and locked it from inside. My cousin hardly made her to open the door. But as soon as she opened it, he took the phone from her. She was trembling with fear and it was visible that the phone belonged to her and she was lying to me. He badly scolded her and went along the phone.
My curiosity got me into trouble, but I thanked Almighty that I was proven innocent. From that day I promised myself to be away from others' matters.
