Alayi's mother wanted to go to the town.
"Now be sure you stay right here, in the house", she said. "Play here, and don't leave the house while I am gone.
Alayi's readily agreed, but he didn't really intend to keep his promise.

No sooner had his mother left the house then Alayi's began to look for something exciting to do. He found a coin which is mother had left on the table.
"Now i'll be able to have some fun," he ran in the opposite direction to the way is mother had gone. It wasn't long before he had spent his mother coin, and he hurried on to see what else he couldn't do.
By this time he realized that if he didn't get home quickly, his mother might get there first.
So Alayi's hurriedly went down a narrow street to find a shortcut home.
Suddenly a small dog ran out of a house, and bit him on the leg!
Alayi's cried out in pain and now he couldn't hurry as fast as before
" I do hope mother isn't home yet" he thought to himself.
"And I do hope she won't see this bite. "
Here at last was home and the house was still empty.

Alayi's got out some of his things and began to play on the floor as calmly as if he had been there all the time.
About half an hour later his mother came in.
"Well, has my Alayi's been a good boy all this time?
I'm sorry I've been so long
"Yes", said Alayi's undecided lying.
A few minutes later, mother was looking on the table where she kept her coin.
"Alayi, I thought I left a coin here before I went out. Have you seen it?"
"Yes; I mean no!" Stammered Alayi
"What do you mean? " demanded his mother, "come on now, tell me
Have you taken the coin? "
"I spent it", cried Alayi
"Where?", demanded mother.
"In the town", sibbed the boy, "And look here a dog bit me! " mother look one look at the stollen leg and off they went to the hospital. And as he lay in bed for the next few days Alayi had a lot of time to think and regret of disobeying his mother.
Mother didn't punish him for his disobedience or for stealing the coin.
She felt that Alayi was having
Punishment enough, and he certainly was
Whenever he was upward tempted to steal or disobey, he would always remember the swollen, pain leg he had while he was in hospital because he didn't do as his mother told him.
