Hello everyone,
My name is Emily and I am currently living in Vancouver, BC. I was born and raised in South Korea, a city called Suwon. Then, my family moved to Canada and settled in since 2006. I have spent exactly half of my life in Korea, and the other half in Canada; so interestingly, I get to question myself about dual (cultural) identities.
I am a 4th year student, finishing off the last semester at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. My major is Visual Arts, mostly focusing on painting. To briefly explain, I am interested in romanticizing the beauty of nature, which I am consistently surrounded in this country. Beauty of nature in everyday life here is such an inspiring idea for me because it is very different than my hometown, which I consider this association as nostalgia as well. I am sensitive with my surroundings, so I pay the most attention to my everyday life even though sometimes it can be mundane. All these kinds of thoughts and emotions are expressed in my painting with colors and textures. I hope the viewers would have their own way of interpretation and different emotion emerging throughout my work. In order to do so, I would like to put up some of my works for next posts and raise questions to the viewers and even for myself as well.
