We can't prevent offenses from coming our way no matter how we try to. Living a peaceful life cannot even prevent it. Whether we like or not it will always come our way. There are just some things that we can't change. The only way we can go about it is by learning to forgive.
That is what Christ would want us to do. Bearing grudges should not be how a believer should live his or her life. Holding someone in our hearts is not really good. But when we let go we bring healing upon ourselves. Forgiving is one of the signs that shows that we have love in us.
We are to love also our enemies, and we can't do it if we are unwilling to forgive them. Whether or not they ask us for our forgiveness we should forgive with the whole of our hearts. We likewise have sinned against God and He expects that we He is forgiving us we should also forgive those who have trespassed against us
