CHANGE YOUR KEYS! Easiest tool

2025-04-03T17:37:30
Just another one of those tools, easy standalone "apps" I always wanted. So tired of walking users through the following steps:
  1. log into peakd
  2. navigate to account page
  3. click drop down account actions
  4. find "keys and permissions"
  5. select change password tab
  6. follow instructions
So many moves! FOR ME! to explain. So - while it wasn't a priority, I always wanted it.
And recently we got an excuse to rush it!
EDIT: https://keys.thecrazygm.com
(forgot to link the tool LOL)
Now, this particular app is a particularily traumatic one. Using the OWNER KEY is something "we all know" is possible to do when necessary, but there is a very real chance of completely messing yourself up by not saving the new keys.

Ooooops! Bricked my account instead of secured it!

Noob mistake sure, but the interfaces don't help. Having "just" a check box that no body reads, in the same format as any old "Terms and Conditions", is a low-hanging room for improvement that I have thought about for a long time.

And bro - WHY CAN'T I PICK MY NEW KEYS?

Well - you can.
Welcome to Step 2:

Seed Phrases

I prefer seed phrases to big ol' hashes. I mean if you want a rando hash go ahead and put it in there, but .... I want to remember 12 words and "BE FREE". I am a philosophy guy after all.
So, pick your master, and move on to Step 3.
Now, check it out, we are slowing down and feeling good about it. Verbosity is a principle I have come to value over the years - sure, not everything in this life needs to be verbose but:
In a world of mystery, secrecy and bespokeness:

I think verbosity helps

This final step is irreversible. We do not have a casual "Terms and Conditions" style check box. If you do not click the download link - YOU CANNOT UPDATE. Its that simple. I am not sure that its fool proof, you know, people always find new ways to be foolish.
But I do think its the best tool we have, now.

Is this worth money?

I'm not sure - I already paid for it. Sure you "can" do this on almost any front end we already have. But not good enough, not safe enough, not verbose enough, not enough configurations, etc etc. FOR MY NEEDS.
So I made this, with my partner in crime @thecrazygm. We think its important.

If you haven't changed keys since the steemit days, maybe now is the time?

And if you would like to support more development of this type on HIVE, feel free (or not!) to vote for our proposal, the Open Mithril Development Framework. This is it. In action. "Stuff like this", as one might say.
Vote for it now on Peakd or on Ecency, if you care to.
