One wallet. Multiple blockchains. All from your Ecency dashboard.
Once you've signed up on Ecency with MetaMask, your account becomes more than just a blog - it becomes a multichain hub. You can view balances, send assets, and sign operations across Ethereum, Solana, BNB, Bitcoin, and more, all without leaving ecency.com.
Here's how it works.
Your Multichain Wallet on Ecency
When you created your Ecency account with MetaMask, your wallet addresses across all MetaMask-supported chains were automatically linked to your Hive account. That means your Ecency wallet page isn't just about HIVE - it's a unified view of your entire Web3 portfolio.
Head to Wallet in your Ecency wallet dashboard and you'll see:
Your HIVE and HBD balances (Hive's native tokens)
Your Ethereum balance
Your Solana balance
Your BNB balance
Your Bitcoin balance
Any other chains supported by your MetaMask
All in one place. All live.
How to Send a Transaction
Sending assets from Ecency is straightforward. Here's the step-by-step:
1. Go to Your Wallet
From your Ecency profile, navigate to the Wallet section.
2. Select the Asset You Want to Send
Choose the blockchain and asset. For example:
Send ETH to a friend's Ethereum address
Transfer HIVE to another Ecency/Hive user
Send SOL to a Solana wallet
3. Enter the Recipient and Amount
Fill in the recipient's wallet address and the amount you'd like to send. Double-check the address - blockchain transactions are irreversible.
4. Sign with MetaMask
Click Send. MetaMask will open and display the transaction details, including the network and any gas fees. Review and click Confirm.
That's it - your transaction is signed and broadcast to the blockchain. Ecency handles the rest.
💡 No separate Hive keys needed. If you signed up with MetaMask, your MetaMask IS your signing key for all operations on Ecency, including Hive blockchain transactions.
Signing Operations on Ecency
Beyond simple transfers, MetaMask is used to sign all major actions on Ecency, including:
Action | Signed With |
|---|---|
Publishing a post | MetaMask |
Voting on content | MetaMask |
Following a user | MetaMask |
Tipping another user | MetaMask |
Transferring HIVE or HBD | MetaMask |
Staking (Powering Up HIVE) | MetaMask |
Every time an operation requires a signature, MetaMask will prompt you to approve it - just like you would on any other Web3 app.
Why This Matters
Traditional social platforms hold your data and control your account. On Ecency, every post, vote, and transaction is a signed blockchain operation - verifiable, permanent, and owned by you.
With MetaMask as your signing key, you're not learning a new system. You're extending the Web3 workflow you already use, into a social platform that actually rewards your contributions.
A Note on Gas Fees
Hive blockchain operations (posting, voting, etc.) are feeless - Hive uses a resource credit model, not gas.
Ethereum and other chain transactions will incur the standard network gas fees, which are shown in MetaMask before you confirm.
Up Next
Already have a Hive account from before MetaMask was supported? In the next post, we'll show you how to link your existing Hive account to MetaMask - so you can use both your original keys and MetaMask going forward.
