What's changing and why
Since we launched our built-in multi-currency wallet, we've seen firsthand how managing a separate seed phrase creates friction for users. You had to:
Generate and securely store a seed phrase exclusively for Ecency's wallet
Keep it backed up separately from any other wallet you already use
Manage Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other token wallets entirely in isolation from your existing setup
Self-custody is a core Web3 principle we deeply believe in - but asking users to juggle yet another seed phrase on top of everything else isn't the experience we want to deliver.
Enter MetaMask + Hive Snap
MetaMask is the most trusted and widely adopted self-custody multi-chain wallet in the world, with over 30 million users. If you're already in Web3, chances are you're already using it. But what makes this integration truly special for Ecency is the Hive Snap - built by the talented @blocktrades team and available open-source at openhive-network/metamask-snap.
Hive Snap brings the Hive blockchain natively into MetaMask, meaning:
Log into Ecency with MetaMask - simpler onboarding, no separate Hive key manager needed
Hive, HBD, and multi-chain assets in one place - HIVE alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, and hundreds of other tokens, all under one self-custody roof
No extra seed phrase - consolidate into your existing MetaMask wallet rather than managing a separate one just for Ecency
Battle-tested security - MetaMask's security model is hardened by years of real-world use at massive scale
Broader ecosystem access - connect to any dApp, exchange, or DeFi protocol directly from your wallet

This integration is also a major step in how Ecency grows.
