Dumb: Anything featured by Yahoo News

I think that when most people think about news the word "Yahoo" doesn't really come to mind at all, let alone in some sort of actual journalism with any sort of standards. If you are one of the dozens of people that doesn't use Yahoo for news (or anything else for that matter,) congratulations, you have made a correct decision in your life even though it was probably by accident.

There was a time when Yahoo was an innovator and was believed to be king of the internet. These days they barely manage to exist as a company just generally speaking.
I suppose I can understand why they hang onto their news portion of things because they probably do actually get some ad revenue out of it since they do seem to have a rather dedicated community in the rather hilarious comments section.
The fun thing about the comments section is that it is almost completely one-sided in its views and this contributes to the people who are participating in it being almost entirely incorrect about their views or what they perceive to be knowledge. When someone in the comments section attempts to clear up the situation with actual facts, if those facts don't line up with the political world-view of the users, they will downvote or thumbs down it to invisibility and this is actually kind of fun to go in there and see.

While it is a very minor thing and kind of riddled with "feels" rather than actual stats, TruthMan above has hit on a very important aspect of the "trade war" that is going on right now and if you look at a wide variety of reports about what is going on in China he is actually quite correct about this trade war having a much more negative effect on China's manufacturing industry than it is on the United States'. I don't know the specifics but there is a reason why almost everything that you have ever purchased that was a piece of garbage was made in China. They produces almost everything and have a focus of avoiding scarcity in lieu of pumping out as much of something as can possibly be done, as quickly as it can be done. This results in very bad things happening to the people who make basically anything in China.
Now the responses to this guy were quite vicious and people chimed in at how "there are lots of other countries in the world to buy these things' which is also true, but if the morons in the comments section really think that China is not feeling a massive downturn in business when the world's number one economy has basically shut them out, then they are walking around with blinders on.
But this is the nature of Yahoo as their users are almost entirely liberal.
It wasn't always that way but I believe that Yahoo is actively pursuing keeping an almost entirely liberal audience, and you can go ahead and make your own conclusions as to why that might be. Perhaps Yahoo feels as though they are far more capable of catering to that political leaning... I have no idea but you only need to look at their lineup of articles to understand that they are not at all interested in showing the users the full story, but just the side of it that feeds the users' insatiable desire to be constantly fed hit-pieces on conservatives including and especially Trump.
I have been monitoring Yahoo News for many years and there was a time not that long ago that there was some sort of movement among conservatives to flood the comment section for whatever that reason might be. It was at that point slowly becoming a "middle of the aisle" aggregate of news because Yahoo was kind of forced to feature some conservative articles here and there. But this didn't last because what actually ended up happening was that Yahoo would simply shut down a comment section if it started to lean conservative.
Then the conservatives left the site altogether (or so it appears) and it just makes me wonder why a company like Yahoo, who is seriously struggling to just stay out of the red, would intentionally kick away half of their audience. It's crap like this that makes me think that a lot of news sources out there are not actually even trying to make a profit, but instead are paid by someone to continue to be leaning a certain way in political op-ed articles without exception.
How else to you explain comments sections being turned off when the article was actually getting a lot more traction because of there being some sort of debate in the comments?
This started during Covid and I would imagine it was all in the name of stopping the spread of "disinformation" even though here we are years later, and a lot of that disinformation actually ended up being the truth. Well we can't have the plebs actually know the truth now can we?
Whatever, Yahoo is trash and I think that most people are aware of this. I do find it rather sad that the people in the comments are blissfully ignorant and completely pleased to remain unknowing about something provided that what they do get to see is something that they already agree with and desperately want to be true, even if it isn't.

Unfortunately that is what almost all news is these days. Once news became big business the various providers of news needed to keep their audience entertained in order to retain them, what better way is there to do this than for the news to always be something they agree with?
All sides are guilty of this even though there does seem to be at least, some effort, put forward by certain publication such Time Magazine, which I think has been making genuine strides towards providing actual news and not just confirmation bias.
Yahoo though, they have basically just thrown in the towel and are a full on propaganda site at this point. But if you do want to see a load of people being willfully ignorant and actively resisting any sort of information that is outside of what they want to be true, go and check out the comments section on basically anything political. It's hilarious and a bit sad how willing people are to remain completely misinformed.
