As an international business coach, I frequently speak with clients who are massively stressed, no matter the country they live in. We all feel stress and we all KNOW that chronic stress is not only uncomfortable, it is deadly to our health, success and relationships. Our bodies are equipped for short-duration stress, but not chronic.
So, what's going on? Stress is generally caused by a person believing he/she has few or no options in a given situation. It is that simple! Notice the word "believing". Most stress is a perceptual problem, not a factual problem.
So, what to do? Identify your stress. What is causing it? Write it down (by hand, on paper - not electronically typed). Now, write down as many possible solutions or options as you can think of without regard for how "reasonable" they might be. Get help if possible. Create as long a list as you can. This alone should relieve you of all or most of your stress. Then, pick the most functional solution. Write down an implementation plan with small, bite-sized action steps. Then DO those! Stress relieved. Problem solved. At least most of the time. Please try it and let me know!
