I love to know parks or squares that connect you with nature in the middle of the fast-paced city life. Those ideal places to clear your mind and rest from the daily hustle and bustle. Places that are worth appreciating, enjoying and above all taking care of to preserve them for a long time.
A couple of days ago, I visited the “Paseo de la lectura”, which is part of the huge Albarregas Metropolitan Park, the main green lung of the city of Merida, Venezuela.
The “Paseo de la lectura” is located in front of the Main Market of Merida, and although I had seen it from afar, I had never had the opportunity to get to know it and enjoy it. This small promenade offers some stone walkways and places to sit and rest under the shade of the leafy trees. In this place you can enjoy a rich stream of fresh air, ideal in this hot time of the year.
Me encanta conocer parques o plazas que te conectan con la naturaleza en medio de la acelerada vida de la ciudad. Esos lugares ideales para despejar la mente y descansar del ajetreo diario. Sitios que valen la pena apreciar, disfrutar y sobre todo cuidar para conservarlos por mucho tiempo.
Hace un par de días, conocí el "Paseo de la lectura", el cual forma parte del inmenso Parque Metropolitano Albarregas, el principal pulmón verde de la ciudad de Mérida, Venezuela.
El paseo de la lectura está ubicado al frente del Mercado Principal de Mérida, y aunque lo había visto desde lejos, nunca me había dado la oportunidad de conocerlo y disfrutarlo. Este pequeño paseo ofrece algunas caminerías de piedras y lugares para sentarse y descansar bajo la sombra de los frondosos árboles. En este sitio puedes disfrutar de una rica corriente de aire fresco, ideal en esta época calurosa del año.
You are welcomed by a very particular sculpture, it is what remains of a great work called the conversation. Originally, there were two sculptures: one of the great Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez, who you can see in the photo. He was holding a book in his hand while conversing with Tulio Febres Cordero, a very well known character of great historical value for the Venezuelan Andes. Unfortunately, this great work was a victim of vandalism and today only part of it remains. I hope that at some point it will be recovered.
However, my son enjoyed a nice conversation with this great poet and to whom we owe the name of the reading walk. Who has not been inspired by some of his literary works?
Te da la bienvenida una escultura muy particular, es lo que queda de una gran obra llamada la conversación. Originalmente, se trataba de dos esculturas: una del gran escritor colombiano Gabriel García Márquez, quien se ve en la foto. Él sostenía un libro en la mano mientras conversaba con Tulio Febres Cordero, un personaje muy reconocido y de gran valor histórico para los Andes venezolanos. Desafortunadamente, esta gran obra fue víctima del vandalismo y hoy solo queda parte de ella. Espero que en algún momento la recuperen.
Sin embargo, mi hijo disfrutó de una linda conversación con este gran poeta y a quien se le debe el nombre del paseo de la lectura. Pues quien no se ha inspirado en algunas de sus obras literarias.
We walked for a while and managed to enjoy the birds. After several attempts I managed to capture in a photo this beauty that nature gives us. I think it might be a sparrow hawk, but I am not sure. We continued walking along the trails and suddenly a beautiful squirrel crossed our path. It was exciting to see it running with such agility that we did not manage to take a picture of it.
Estuvimos caminando un poco y logramos disfrutar de las aves. Después de varios intentos logré capturar en una foto esta belleza que nos regala la naturaleza. Pienso que puede ser un gavilán, pero no estoy segura. Seguimos recorriendo las caminerías y de repente se nos cruzó una bella ardilla. Fue emocionante verla correr con tanta agilidad que no logramos tomar una foto de ella.
Finally, we found a concrete sculpture that enchanted us. It seems to be the ruins of a concrete building, it is composed of 03 walls and something tells me that its location may mean something, perhaps it is related to the cardinal points. It seems to me that this sculpture represents the contrast between the created by man and nature, and how both complement each other in a harmonious way.
Each wall has details in relief that make it interesting, but the best thing is the vegetation that is intertwined with them. When you stand in the middle and look up, the trees seem to be the ceiling and the view is simply beautiful and relaxing.
Finalmente, encontramos una escultura de concreto que nos encantó. Parece que son las ruinas de una edificación de concreto, está compuesta por 03 paredes y algo me dice que su ubicación tal vez signifique algo, tal vez tenga relación con los puntos cardinales. Me parece que esta escultura representa ese contraste entre lo creado por el hombre y la naturaleza, y cómo ambas se complementan de manera armónica.
Cada pared tiene detalles en relieve que la hace interesante, pero lo mejor es la vegetación que se entrelaza con ellas. Al colocarte en el medio y ver arriba, los árboles parecen ser el techo y la vista es simplemente hermosa y relajante.
Walking through this park turned out to be fun. We got to know a new place to enjoy nature and I am sure we will visit it more often, maybe, every time we visit the main market, the favorite place for tourists to buy souvenirs of their trip.
The reading walk is just a small part of the Albarregas Metropolitan Park which I am looking forward to getting to know in depth. I look forward to that opportunity which, of course, I will share with you.
Caminar por este parque resultó ser divertido. Conocimos un lugar nuevo para disfrutar de la naturaleza y estoy segura de que lo visitaremos más seguido, tal vez, cada vez que visitemos el mercado principal, el lugar preferido por los turistas para comprar recuerdos de su viaje.
El paseo de la lectura, es solo una pequeña parte del Parque Metropolitano Albarregas el cual tengo ganas de conocer a fondo. Espero que llegue esa oportunidad que, por supuesto, compartiré con ustedes.
