Hello dear Hivers and welcome back to my Blog!
Today I’m going to tell you about an Italian initiative that I’m very proud of: the Italian Carnivorous Plant Association.
Since January 2025 I have been an official member and I actively participate in the initiatives. Today I received my first membership card and I’m very happy!
This association was founded by some passionate growers and has many purposes, the main one being the exchange of information, materials and species of carnivorous plants among its members.

Oggi vi racconto un’iniziativa italiana di cui sono molto orgogliosa: l’Associazione Italiana Piante Carnivore.
Da gennaio 2025 sono ufficialmente un membro e partecipo attivamente alle iniziative. Oggi ho ricevuto la mia prima tessera e sono molto felice!
Questa associazione è stata fondata da alcuni appassionati coltivatori e ha numerosi scopi, di cui il principale è lo scambio di informazioni, materiali e specie di piante carnivore tra i soci.
The Italian Carnivorous Plant Association also edits a specialized magazine called “AIPC Magazine”, which talks about the cultivation of carnivorous plants, trips to the natural habitats of these plants, information on rare species and the latest scientific news from this world.
This magazine publishes 4 numbers per year and is sent directly to members by post. Since these are very specific and niche topics, it’s interesting to note that they constitute a real collection.
The magazine I received this month, in particular, talks about Drosera, a species that I particularly appreciate for its colors and of which I own several varieties.
L’Associazione Italiana Piante Carnivore si occupa anche della redazione di una rivista specializzata chiamata “AIPC Magazine”, dove si parla di coltivazione di piante carnivore, viaggi negli habitat naturali di queste piante, informazioni su specie rare e ultime novità scientifiche da questo mondo.
Di questa rivista vengono pubblicati 4 numeri all’anno e vengono spediti direttamente ai soci tramite posta. Trattandosi di argomenti molto specifici e di nicchia, è interessante notare che questi numeri costituiscono una vera e propria collezione.
Il numero che ho ricevuto questo mese, in particolare, parla di Drosera, una specie che apprezzo particolarmente per i suoi colori e di cui posseggo diverse varietà.
Another fundamental activity is the protection of the biodiversity of Italian carnivorous plant species, through collaborations with guides in natural territories, schools and universities.
In fact, many people believe that carnivorous plants are native to distant territories with difficult climates, but this is not always true. There are some species and varieties that are native to temperate climates, such as Italy, and that adapt very well to our Mediterranean with hot summers and mild winters.
I got to know the association during the organization of the annual meeting, itinerant throughout Italy, and which was sometimes held near where I live. The annual meeting is the best opportunity to meet other growers, exhibit the most beautiful species and learn new interesting notions about the world of carnivorous plants.
In recent years, enthusiasts have increased considerably and the meeting is also attended by an international audience.
Un’altra attività fondamentale è la tutela della biodiversità delle specie di piante carnivore italiane, attraverso collaborazioni con le guide nei territori naturali, le scuole e le università.
Infatti, molte persone ritengono che le piante carnivore siano originarie di territori lontani con climi difficili, ma questo non è sempre vero. Esistono alcune specie e varietà che sono originarie dei climi temperati, come l’Italia, e che si adattano benissimo al nostro Mediterraneo con estati calde e inverni miti.
Ho conosciuto l’associazione durante l’organizzazione del meeting annuale, itinerante in tutta Italia, e che alcune volte è stato svolto vicino a dove abito. Il meeting annuale è l’occasione migliore per conoscere altri coltivatori, esibire gli esemplari più belli e imparare nuove nozioni interessanti sul mondo delle piante carnivore.
Negli ultimi anni, gli appassionati sono aumentati parecchio e al meeting partecipa anche un pubblico internazionale.
