Gypsy Lady

Gypsy Lady

Gypsy lady, Are you your mother’s or father’s child
Or, the product of a jungle seldom viewed?
I’ve watched you stroll amidst the midnight mist
Trapped somewhere ‘tween heaven and hell – your face awash in pallid blue.

Have you found peace in emptiness
Or is your torment an illusion?
Weeping statues of angels must now stand guard
O’er a listing soul imbued.

Gypsy lady, what had come before this dissolution?
Is your heart now an empty well?
The sacred hoop has been broken
And the flower of life decayed

From which dark recess had your dreams been born
And have they been swallowed whole?
You cannot burn out what had not been set ablaze
Yet embers dance madly like fireflies twisting in the wind
