In recent times, Teslas, even in Italy, have been the subject of several episodes of vandalism by those who do not look favorably on the relationship between the number one of the American car manufacturer Elon Musk and the President of the United States Donald Trump. A situation that also affects the prices of car insurance.
In an analysis conducted by 'Facile.it', it emerged that the prices of theft-fire policies to insure a Tesla have increased in recent weeks, also due to the many acts of vandalism towards the electric cars of Musk's company.
The data speaks clearly: examining a sample of over 130,000 quotes collected in the last year for third party car insurance with theft and fire coverage, 'Facile.it' discovered how the rates reserved for Tesla models have grown, reaching a peak of +28% on an annual basis in April 2025. The average cost of insuring a Tesla in Italy, including theft and fire, went from 796 euros to 1,022 euros in just twelve months.
As stated in the survey, the various insurance companies evaluate many elements to determine the price of coverage, and therefore it is difficult to connect price variations to a single factor: despite this, the probability of an accident occurring is among the most important parameters and therefore what is happening to Teslas around the world cannot be ignored.
The news, after all, is full of episodes related to acts of vandalism against Teslas: in Italy, for example, the situation has become particularly critical in Rome, where a Tesla dealership was devastated by a violent fire that broke out on the night of Monday 31 March, with the flames destroying 17 cars parked inside, also causing partial damage to the structure.
Internationally, many of the protests are organized by the movement called ‘Tesla Takedown’, which aims to convince Elon Musk to leave his post within the Trump administration. In addition to the fires, Teslas are targeted in various ways: some use spray paint to deface them, while others focus on the bodywork.
