In September I attended a conference, where I heard an interesting presentation about quantum computers.

It was really amazing, as Satya Nadella talked about this quantum computing developments.
They started to built a general purpose quantum computer, which not only work on special problems.
For those who interested in more details about the announcement, can be found in the following video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFZt3xds74A
They also built a development environment which can be used to learn new programming possibilities.
It is freely available on Github:

There are several players around the market.
IBM is also working on these machines, they recently announced the prototype of an 50 Qubit prototype

They made a python based SDK to write programs which able to use their platform. It is also on github:
https://github.com/QISKit/qiskit-sdk-py
And we can be sure about that Google also working on these machines

And there is another fantastic presentation for those who interested in quantum computing

Fujitsu announced a product, which will be available much faster available than general purpose quantum computers, and
can be ten thousand times faster than current computation devices. I can't wait to see it in real action, compared to the current GPU, FPGA and DSP devices. This is the real advance, who start to developments with these new devices can leapfrog the competitors.
These developments will affect blockchain also, as the currently used cryptography will be obsolete, and unsecure.
I would be interested how the platform developers like steemit developers think about these developments.
