Learning Growing and becoming Independent

Before and After: We all must have experienced one or more of these major life change events like marriage, divorce, retirement, breakup, leaving home or becoming independent, health challenges, or habits... How was your life before and after the major change?
Change is the only thing that is always taking place from when a child is conceived to birth and through one's life. Change is either taking place physically through growth or through constant learning, which might lead to changes in thought processes.
From childhood to adolescence to adulthood, our bodies are constantly going through changes that we may not have control over, but of course we have control over how we react to these changes.
As the first child in my family, I grew up to a stage, and my mom said it was time I learned to do house chores. At first it was difficult, but with consistency I mastered most of the chores, like washing dishes and doing the laundry, and also cleaning around the house. But no matter how hard my mom tried, I never really had an interest in kitchen activities like cooking.
My mom and younger sister always took care of the kitchen chores. Fast forward to when I got admission into school, I knew I had to learn to cook, now more so for the fact that I stayed alone. It became a challenge because before now the only thing I could do in the kitchen was boil white rice.
When the reality of leaving home for school dawned on me, I decided to give cooking some attention, but there was very little I could learn before leaving for school. This made me take some notes anytime I had an opportunity to be in the kitchen with Mum before I left for school.
By the time I finally got to school, the first few months were filled with ups and downs because sometimes I would get the process correct and sometimes
I practically had to call my mom for an explanation, but with consistency in doing my own kitchen chores by myself, I can say I have gotten better.
Also, back then when I was home with my parents, I sometimes would sleep uncontrollably so that they practically had to wake me up, but on getting to school, I had to readjust myself to make sure I woke up in time in inorder to be in school on time for lectures as well. Furthermore, I have learned to be self-dependent by leveraging my skills to earn some income in order to take some burden off my parents.
Management of resources at my disposal is also one of the skills I had to learn in order to survive, and this has been very crucial in my journey so far, and I am grateful for that because sooner or later I will be starting my own family, and the characters developed now are going to form a basis on which the foundation of that family will be built, so I continuously strive to be a better version of myself and embrace the changes around me because the truth is we do not have control over some of the things around us, but we are in control of how we react to those things. This is my entry for the #hn-naija featured weekly contest.
