A walk through Hyde Park, Chicago on a winter morning

By @coquicoin1/15/2026hive-155530

The walk I'm sharing with you today for Wednesday Walk is one that my son and I took on December 29 in Hyde Park, Chicago. We had to go to the dry cleaners to pick up some clothes, and that morning was the first snowy one during my visit to the Windy City last month.

My son lives near Midway Plaisance, a huge green area, although I should say white in this case, haha in south Chicago. This is where I start this tour.

The park was covered in snow, and if you look closely at this first photo, you can see an ice skating rink in the background.

It was cold and windy, so I went out prepared to cover up as much as I could.

We crossed the park via Woodland Ave., heading north. In this photo, you can see the tower of Rockefeller Chapel, one of the University of Chicago's iconic buildings.

At the corner of 58th Street, we passed in front of the Robie House, designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The house is now a historic museum that offers guided tours.

We reached 57th Street and walked a few blocks west to reach our destination.

And we arrived at our destination, the dry cleaner's where we had to pick up my son's clothes.

The girl at the dry cleaner's was Mexican and remembered us, so she immediately found our coat and jacket.

And from there we started our way back to the apartment.

I liked how the snow looked on the roofs of those buildings.

We walked through the streets that cross the University of Chicago campus.

I took this photo because I liked the contrast of the winter landscape with that red car. Don't you?

Look how the Main Quadrangle of the University of Chicago looked like covered in snow.

This is one of the buildings on the University of Chicago campus, and it is home to the Department of Economics. The tower of the building caught my attention.

Do you remember that in the first photo I mentioned a skating rink in the background? Well, this is a close look of the rink.

One last photo of Midway Plaisance covered in snow. The building in the background is the Obama Presidential Center, which will be officially inaugurated in the middle of this year.
