Spring is Here

Memory garden for my mother-in-law.

It is almost that time. Time to start planting flowers in the flower gardens. We have some pots around the outside of the house in various places too. We already have some of the wild flowers coming up that we planted last year. The neighbor's daffodils that border our fence are blooming. Our forget me nots are looking lovely.

Yes, I am ready for some beauty after a long grey winter.

Seeds and Plans

About another week and I plan to plant my cherry tomato seeds. We bought some biodegradable little planters to put them in. That way we can just place them in the ground or pot directly. No transplanting.

I also picked up some strawberry seeds. Plan to plant some of those as well. The biggest challenge will be keeping the chipmunks out. We planted some a couple years ago and they had a feast. Little bastards. Besides the cherry tomatoes, I love fresh strawberries right off the plant. Nothing from the store compares.

Even our rose bushes are starting to bud. I just hope no late frosts come along.

The Lawn Situation

The lawn is going to require some reseeding in some spots. Last year we had a fungus take hold. It killed the grass. Small spots, but enough to make the lawn look a little awkward.

The back lawn is the dogs' playground, so it will have some bare spots regardless. But we have a digger now in our newest dog Lilly. She would dig to China if we let her. Several holes in the backyard need filled.

So we made a trip to Lowes a while back. Bought some seed, some fill dirt, and straw. Next week we can start filling holes. Will have to wait about eight more days to seed the lawn. We had the yard treated just the other day and have to wait about ten days before seeding.

Fish Fertilizer

I want to go fishing soon. Bring home some fish and use them as fertilizer in the flower gardens. The wife said no. Afraid they will stink the place up. Who knows, she may be right. I read where the Native Americans used to do this with their crops and it worked well for fertilizer. But I'm guessing they weren't planting right next to the house.

For Now

Anyway, gonna sit here, wait for the sun to come up, and drink my second cup of coffee. Dream of what the new lawn and flowers will look like after we're done. Getting anxious to start making things look pretty outside before it starts getting too hot. Looking forward to getting outside more and enjoying the sunny days as well.

Spent too much time inside this winter. Time to fix that.
