Today I wanted to share a few snowy photos again this week.
Somber Monochrome Monday
I just got a tough phone call today.. and the black and white photos really put things into that type of mood anyway.
It's always hard when you get some tough news, and a bit more difficult when you are caught off guard. Sometimes though, you are better to be caught off guard than seeing something dragged out and difficult in the long term.
These are the days in which black and white photos, even if they are of a beautiful scene and have fond memories attached to them, are a bit of a soothing element.
I wonder if that's why I enjoy writing the monochrome Monday posts every week. It's a time to be reflective and potentially melancholy if you need to. The vibrancy of the colors is extracted and you get to potentially grasp at some deeper meaning compared to the color photos. It has more thought to it in some ways..
Adding an extra element of this for sure is the fact that it's a deeply snowed in winter landscape. I love the beautiful look of the deep winters grip on the landscape. Choked with snow, fragile, mostly dead but still little bits of life clinging on. It's a somber place for some thoughts to roll on around. Having the somberness is not always a bad thing because it is a valid and present emotion for many aspects of our lives.
The deep, blanketed snow surrounding the whole environment is a heck of a view. In many ways, it is an eerie yet fascinating scene. Knowing that many things have died in the realm of view just in the photograph, so that things can be reborn come the spring thaw. The cycle of life is a heck of a thing, because it is both cruel and liberating.
Still going back to the black and white aspect of the photograph.. even though there isn't much color in there to begin with because the winter and the snow.. it feels both deep as well as drab.
Am I having a Stroke with the word salad? NO!
