Here are some simple tips that can help you to not wake up retching.
Prior to drinking.
Take:
1 Daily Multivitamin
1 Antacid
1 Full dose of Naproxen, (Such as Ibuprofen).
(See packages ulcer warning)
1 Imodium (if you are prone to GI irritation)
1 liter of Electrolyte (such as Coco H20)
Upon Drinking:

Put a virgin drink (I like tonic and lime) between your first few alcoholic beverages.
But Don't Take My Word For It. Do your own research study. Drink the same quantity and type of alcohol two different times, once with the pre-cocktail, once without and decide for yourself if it makes a difference.
Cheers!
How it works:
The long and short of what this preprefunk does is: increases hydration, reduces stomach/GI irritation, neutralizes ph balances, slows urine output, and decreases the side effects of alcohol to the liver and brain.
Causes:
Veisalgia a medical term that roughly translates as “the pain or grief from drinking”, in Norwegian effects countless millions of humans on the planet, daily.
Suspect Causes include; the effect of ethanol, ethanol withdraws and “imperfections” from the fermentation processes effects on the liver, brain and body.
There is some research indicating darker beverages, such as whiskey, bourbon and heavily malted beers have more “imperfections” and thus can produce worse hangovers.
Most hangover symptoms can be contributed to dehydration caused by alcohol based diuresis. Chemicals in alcohol prevent the liver from being able to reabsorb water which causes excessive urination. This and the irritation of ethanol on the digestive tract.
This digestive irritation is why the over consumption of alcohol leads to: nausea, dizziness, eventually vomiting and diarrhea as the body attempts to purge. Purging uses up more liquid, causes further dehydration leading to more side effects.
Symptoms fall along a spectrum in range and severity including but not limited to:
Nausea/vomiting, body aches, dry mouth/thirst, to being tired/restless or decreased cognition.
