Hoy me uno a esta iniciativa, siendo además mi primer post en esta comunidad tan bonita. En este post voy a estar contestando algunas de las preguntas del cuestionario con el objetivo de que conozcan un poco más acerca de las costumbres de mi país durante la conmemoración de esta semana tan especial para el mundo cristiano.
Today I'm joining this initiative, and this is also my first post in this wonderful community. In this post, I'll be answering some of the questions from the questionnaire so you can learn a little more about the customs of my country during the commemoration of this very special week for the Christian world.
La Semana Santa es una época especial en la cual los feligreses tenemos la oportunidad de reflexionar acerca del martirio que vivió Cristo y de qué forma generó un impacto en la humanidad, nos permite además autoevaluarnos para determinar que tan piadosos hemos sido y cuanto nos falta para mejorar como seres humanos, es una época de purificación espiritual.
Holy Week is a special time when we parishioners have the opportunity to reflect on the martyrdom of Christ and how it impacted humanity. It also allows us to self-evaluate to determine how pious we have been and how much we still need to improve as human beings. It is a time of spiritual purification.
Sí, todos los años los vecinos de mi cuadra y yo hacemos un viacrucis pero en este tipo de viacrucis repartimos las 14 estaciones entre algunas casas de las familias que quieran participar, en nuestro caso, mi casa fue sede de la tercera estación. Los vecinos (participantes de la actividad) nos dedicamos a orar y rezar en cada casa para pedir favores por la humanidad, los vecinos y las familias. Es una actividad muy bonita que hacemos cada año y que nos llena de hermandad que nos une como vecinos y como seres humanos.
Yes, every year the neighbors on my block and I hold a Stations of the Cross, but in this type of Stations of the Cross, we divide the 14 stations among the homes of families who want to participate. In our case, my house hosted the third station. The neighbors (participants in the activity) dedicate themselves to praying in each home to ask for favors for humanity, our neighbors, and their families. It's a very beautiful activity that we do every year and that fills us with a brotherhood that unites us as neighbors and as human beings.
No lo hacemos todos los años pero sí en alguna que otra ocasión, sobre todo cuando mis hijas estaban pequeñas, sin embargo hace unos pocos años fuimos a la playa, lo malo es que durante esas fechas los lugares turísticos están colapsados de personas
We don't do it every year but we do on some occasions, especially when my daughters were little, however a few years ago we went to the beach, the bad thing is that during those dates the tourist places are packed with people.
Mi abuela tenía como costumbre ahumar la casa con incienso y mirra para purificarla, pero también le gustaba visitar los siete templos, lo que sucede es que hay una tradición en mi país (Venezuela) de visitar siete iglesias durante los Jueves Santos y orar frente al sagrario (lugar donde se coloca el cáliz con las hostias sacramentadas) Personalmente no sigo estos rituales, pero si me gusta acudir a la iglesia para escuchar misa algún día de la semana Santa, generalmente los miércoles santos para acompañar la procesión del nazareno o los domingos de resurrección para celebrar la vuelta a la vida de nuestro señor Jesucristo. ¡Ahh! Y algo que olvidé decirles es que la Semana Santa de los tiempos de cuando yo era niña era verdaderamente una época difícil de soportar porque mi abuela y mi mamá nos obligaban a toda la familia a comer pescado durante toda la semana, en la cual además debíamos guardar silencio y bajo ningún concepto martillar algo porque decían que estaríamos martillando las llagas de Jesús, en la radio solo se oía música sacra y de verdad era una época muy difícil para cualquier adulto pero sobre todo para los niños.
My grandmother had the custom of smoking the house with incense and myrrh to purify it, but she also liked to visit the seven temples, what happens is that there is a tradition in my country (Venezuela) of visiting seven churches during Holy Thursdays and praying in front of the tabernacle (place where the chalice with the sacramental hosts is placed) Personally I do not follow these rituals, but I do like to go to church to hear mass one day of Holy Week, generally on Holy Wednesdays to accompany the procession of the Nazarene or on Easter Sundays to celebrate the return to life of our Lord Jesus Christ. Oh! And something I forgot to tell you is that Holy Week when I was a child was truly a difficult time to endure because my grandmother and mother forced the whole family to eat fish all week long. During this time, we were also required to remain silent and under no circumstances to hammer anything because they said we would be hammering Jesus' wounds. All you could hear on the radio was sacred music, and it was truly a very difficult time for any adult, but especially for children.
Personalmente pienso que no es necesario seguir ningún ritual ni tradición para honrar al señor, siempre y cuando se tenga una buena voluntad de seguir sus preceptos, aún así tengo pensado visitar la iglesia uno de estos días en compañía de mi familia.
Personally, I don't think it's necessary to follow any ritual or tradition to honor the Lord, as long as one has a good will to follow his precepts. Even so, I plan to visit the church one of these days with my family.
En casa no acostumbramos a preparar nada especial para estas fechas, honestamente comemos lo que tengamos en casa en ese momento, pero tengo unas ganas locas de comer un postre muy rico y típico de Semana Santa aquí en Venezuela, se trata del arroz con coco 😋, a lo mejor y me animo a prepararlo, así sea después de la semana, no importa.
At home we don't usually prepare anything special for these dates, honestly we eat whatever we have at home at that moment, but I have a crazy desire to eat a very rich and typical dessert of Holy Week here in Venezuela, it is rice with coconut 😋, maybe I will dare to prepare it, even if it is after the week, it does not matter.
