After an unexpected draw against the bottom team in the table, all eyes were on a derby that, on paper, looked like another obstacle in the path of the Premier League leaders. The truth is that the uncertainty did not last long, and despite resistance from a desperate Tottenham, Arteta's team dispelled any hint of another surprise and ended up winning by a landslide, earning not only three points but also some breathing room heading into the final stretch of the Premier League season.
With a five-point lead and one game in hand over their closest rivals (Manchester City and Aston Villa), the Gunners can breathe a little easier after raising a flood of doubts with their 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton last weekend. The good form of their two strikers, who both scored twice against Tottenham, is also a much-needed boost for the upcoming match against Chelsea, a team that, despite a short run of draws (2), remains a formidable opponent and a tough nut to crack.
It is at times like these that the Arsenal team needs to convey the strong image they have established as a team in competitions such as the Champions League and the English League Cup, where they will play the final against Manchester City. The Premier League has always shown that there is no small rival that cannot pose a serious problem, which is why every game will be a real final for the Gunners, especially if Manchester City does not take its foot off the gas until they face each other for the league title in approximately two months, during which time a lot can happen for a team like Arsenal, which is still in contention in several major tournaments.
The road still seems quite long, but it is also vital that the Premier League leader begins to assert his authority, dispelling any doubts and uncertainty and starting to forge his reputation as a strong candidate to win the Premier League title.
