I came across this piece at my local coin store. I wasn't really picky about what silver they gave me, so they grabbed some one ounce rounds at random, bagged them for me, and I was on my way.
I looked through them later that day. Most were just generic buffalos or trade dollar rounds. This one is interesting because it's meant to be customized.
Obverse
I don't think they put "happy" and "birthday" enough times on this. 😆 The cake is a fun design, so at least that helps break up the cluster of words.
Reverse
On the back side of the round is a large, blank surface area surrounded by some elaborate vine and leaf designs. The reason for the blank space is to allow you to take it to a jeweler to have a person's name engraved in the blank space. Once engraved, it makes for a very sweet keepsake that's "precious" in more ways than one. 😁
Every once in a while, you come across these already engraved with someone else's name. Perhaps they parted with it for financial reasons, or maybe it ended up in an estate sale. I like the idea behind these, but sadly, many today would rather have a gift card or electronics than their name engraved on a silver birthday round. If you can find these second hand, you can usually get them pretty cheap, so don't hesitate if you're just buying for weight.
