Like many of you, I'm eagerly awaiting to hear more details about Conclave Arcana. I'm excited about digging into all the new cards in the set and learning about the new mechanics and also can't wait to see what the presale will look like and what the promo cards will be.
A few people have asked me whether I'll buying CA packs. Here's a high fidelity replay of those interactions:
Peoples: Hey bravetofu, how many Conclave Arcana packs will you buy?
Bravetofu: Yes.
TLDR: I will absolutely be buying a lot of tasty Carne Asada Conclave Arcana. Why wouldn't I? I believe in the future of the game, both in the short and long term, and I believe CA is the catalyst we've been waiting for.
How has Rebellion treated you?
I bought a lot of Rebellion packs. Specifically: 12,955. This earned me a chance to work with the team on a Legendary summoner, which spawned Eternal Tofu.
I estimate it cost me approximately $2.80 per pack due to the DEC discount at the time I bought that DEC and the Voucher pack bonuses, so in total I spent ~$36k on the presale.
In addition to that, I estimate that I've purchased ~$4000 of Rebellion cards in the last year. This is a rough estimate, but it's pretty close. Most of this was to buy Gold Foil cards that I wasn't quite able to complete from my packs (mainly Legendary and Epic GFs).
Looking at the current value of my Rebellion cards it is ~$73k using market value (based on last buy/sell) and ~$87k based on list prices. That means my Rebellion collection is worth 1.8x-2.2x more than I paid. That's better than most assets in the last 12-18 months!
In addition to the value of my Rebellion collection increasing, it has been absolutely essential in helping me be competitive in Modern and Wild (both in Ranked and Tournaments), in brawls, and in Survival. It's hard to estimate exactly how much SPS earned can be attributed to it, but it's in the thousands of dollars over the course of the last year. Lastly, I do rent out some of my Rebellion cards, and they have typically had very high yields over the last year. I routinely was making $15-20/day from renting out a subset of my cards until Survival came along, so that's another $5-7k over a year.
So yeah, I'm very happy with my large Rebellion purchase.
Importance of promo cards & airdrops
Promos and airdrops account for ~33% of my total Rebellion collection value. This includes the two presale promo cards (Grimbardun Smith and Mantaroth) as well as all the Conflict airdrops (which I participated in very heavily, using what I bought in the Rebellion presale). These cards are (mostly) absolute beasts that are essential to play at the top of Modern, so this isn't too surprising.
It's very important for the promo cards to be appealing as they are a huge part of the value you get from buying packs. The team understands this, and I'm confident they'll make it work out for Conclave Arcana.
How about them Black Foils?
@blazekos teased that we will be seeing some new foils, namely a "Black" foil, in the new set. Am I interested? Hell yeah! How much I actually CHASE these will largely depend on the utility that comes along with them. Some ideas that have been thrown around (nothing confirmed) include:
- Increased land PP
- Being able to use them on Land + ranked at the same time
- No cooldown in survival
They'll also come maxed, so each pack we open has a chance of a MEGAcard in it.
The Chase is Real!
Gonna create another summoner?
I'd be excited and honored to have a chance to work with the team to create another summoner. Will I chase the leaderboard with that purpose in mind? Probably.
Will it be another cat?
No! If I get the opportunity to do a summoner, I'll be going for something darker this time around :)
