Hello guys, I created a blog on Vulnerable groups and Crime for my work, its not yet completed however I have decided to upload the content anyway.
Here it is
Unit 7: Crime and its effects on society and individuals
What is crime?
In the oxford dictionary, crime is defined as an act against regulations/ law set; ‘act against’ for going out of your way to commit unlawful acts which is deemed punishable by law. This constitutes to an offence which results in a punishment.
Vulnerability
There are masses of groups susceptible to crime on a daily basis. It is up to the constabulary, the Services and the community to guard each other from this likelihood.
Children and young teenage adults are vulnerable to crime, predominantly the youth generation seeing that they are prone to bullying. This type of crime is happening all the time.
1.5 million Young people have been bullied within the past year and 145,800 of these were bullied every day, which makes bullying the most committed crime of this century.
Not just children or youths face this crime; both elderly and ethnic groups have to deal with this along with gender inequality. ("UK Bullying Statistics 2016 - Ditch The Label") Children are vulnerable to crime as they can be prone to abuse and sex offenders, within the virtual community and in physical space.
The elderly generation can be vulnerable to crime in their property; they are defenceless making them more susceptible to this. They are also vulnerable to age discrimination and physical aggression.
The different ethnic groups and religious groups are vulnerable to crime on a basis as they can be discriminated due to their colour of skin, their religion and ethnicity. They are Prejudiced as a form of physical and verbal mistreatment.
Exposure to criminal behaviour
Many groups are vulnerable to unlawful activities both in the homes and on the streets, children are vulnerable to criminal behaviour at home, they are vulnerable as child abuse happens mostly at home; the parents commit the crime of abuse for difficulty at life or over hatred, however children cannot stop child abuse. Adults can... Police recorded 47,008 sexual offences against children in the UK. ("Statistics On Child Abuse")
Elderly are vulnerable to criminal behaviour amongst with children in the same category as they can be victimized to abuse, this can be at home or in the care home, wherever it is, they cannot stop it as they are weak. The elderly are also exposed to theft on the streets as they will not be able to defend themselves during an attack, mostly this sort of crime happens in the home. Fraudulent activity makes the elderly vulnerable as again, they are defenceless and due to their generation, they find it harder to identify a scam. Both individual groups can be targeted for scam online, making them vulnerable to criminal behaviour. This can be done through email or through social media making them easy targets. If you can identified as a young or elder generation then criminals will find it easy to find you and potentially target you.
Religious people may be positioned as an easy target for criminal behaviour as they may be vulnerable to larceny or appropriation; this goes to ethnic groups amongst that. The groupies’ entire are exposed to criminal behaviours in reference to grand theft auto, arson, falsification.
How specific crime could impact on an individual.
Youth and the younger generation could be impacted by larceny equally mentally and physically, thy will have a psychological impact as they will fear in danger. As theft was taken place, they will not feel safe going out, causing a short term impact on this individual. Though the long term impact will be psychological profiling, this is where the individual who was victimized will profile people on their appearance; for example, the individual who robbed the victim was wearing a tracksuit, this psychological image will stay mentality, therefore if they see another individual in a tracksuit dressed the same, then they will be profiled as a danger/ threat to the individual who was victimized. The individual who was physically assaulted will suffer with bodily damage, the assailant would have caused grievous bodily harm with intent, causing the victim to have bruises and potentially long lasting injuries as such being a scar. This physical impact is not elongated in effect however you will have a long lasting mental image of this.
A crime identified as rape will have a vast impact on the victim/ individual mentally, the victim will have mentally instability, as a result they will feel nervous and apprehensive around the opposite sexual category. As an individual if victimised it will have emotional and psychological effects such as a post-traumatic stress disorder and self-blame. This is a substantial impact on the victim, slowing down the healing process. The mental impact is great causing depression in the future. You will fear for your protection or you will have flashbacks of that situation when having intercourse with another person of the same sex. If the individual has been a victim of rape then they may suffer with injuries, they will have scars or bruises from the rapist, however then long term effects of rape as a crime will be painful intercourse with your significant other, urinary infections can occur along with sexually transmitted diseases, HIV, genital warts, Chlamydia or any other infection.
