The following depicts an iconic scene on the North Shore of Minnesota, overlooking the Great Lake Superior.
The scene is that of Split Rock Lighthouse.
I have a vision for a soundtrack reminiscent of the area. Something desolate & lonely, for it is easy to remove yourself from society and it’s frivolity. Yet a place that is lively and dare I say joyful; a place a person could find solace in its flora and fauna.
I live roughly a three hour drive south of this area. It’s never too far within reach, yet I do not visit it enough. In some regards, it feels like I’m taking a glimpse of the edge of the world when I peer into the lake from the cliffs. It feels like a place that is somewhat unexplored, something fresh and new.
I took some liberty with the scene and added a dark, looming figure gazing upon the solitary lighthouse. Perhaps he is waiting for someone.
With this image, I have also created an ambient synth track, “Temperance River”. A river that runs in a state park just a quick travel north of Split Rock.
I’m looking forward to visiting these sacred spaces again soon.
