Hello friends, welcome to my blog! Today we're going to visit a historic and beautiful place on the southern coast of Portugal, right where one of the most visited beaches by tourists is located year-round. I'm referring to "Fte Telha." But before we get to the beaches, which extend for over 6 km, I'm going to show you a rather important ecosystem in Europe, perhaps even the entire world. These are the fossil dunes of "Caparica," which were formed over 10 million years ago.🚩🏔️🌅

Hoy vamos a visitar un lugar histórico y hermoso del margen sur del Portugal, exactamente donde se encuentra una de las playas más visitadas por turistas durante el año completo me refiero a "fte telha", pero antes de llegar a las playas cuya extensión tienen más de 6km yo te mostraré un ecosistema bastante importante de Europa hasta podría decirse del mundo entero y se trata de las dunas fosiles de "Caparica" cuya formación data de hace más de 10 millones de años.📕🌷😮

The main reason why people visit these beaches so many times, which in total are more than (10) with 8km of extension, is perhaps the location is in a privileged area in terms of geographical location! It is just under 15 minutes by car from the center of Lisbon and just under 20 minutes by car from Setubal, the southernmost area of Lisbon, that is, it is the most central beach of all these surroundings. The climate is pleasant in summer with lots of sun and despite being Atlantic, the contrast of heat with the cold water is not unpleasant. There is always public transport, it is protected by lifeguards and has an extensive line of restaurants of all kinds.😮🧭🤑🏔️
¡El principal motivo de porque la gente visita tanto estas playas que en total son más de (10) con 8km de extensión es tal vez la localización está en una zona privilegiada en cuanto a ubicación geográfica! Está a poco menos de 15min en vehículo desde el centro de Lisboa y poco menos de 20min en vehículo desde Setubal la zona más al sur de Lisboa, o sea, es la playa más céntrica de todos estos alrededores. El clima es agradable en verano con mucho sol y a pesar de que es atlántico, el contraste de calor con el agua fría no es desagradable. Hay transporte público siempre, está resguardada por salvavidas y presenta una línea extensa de restaurantes de todo tipo.🚙🌄🛥️🏞️
A walk to enjoy a different atmosphere🗺️🌅 / Una caminata para disfrutar de un ambiente diferente🌍🧭
Clearly, there are two ways to enjoy the scenery that the dunes have to offer, you can simply visit the beach and stay there all day enjoying with your family, or you can do what I did if you are a hiking lover like me, you can take an improvised trail throughout the protected mountain range of "caparica" which are actually the dunes and enjoy the views, the viewpoints, the forest "of the dunes" and while you are doing the route you can read about the ecosystem and learn something very interesting and historical; but be careful if you do this hike in summer, be prepared, it is very demanding, very hot, you will be exposed to the sun for several hours, I do not recommend it for children or people with health problems.🛥️🌄😮🚩
Claramente, aquí hay dos formas de disfrutar el paisaje que las dunas tienen para ofrecernos, puedes simplemente visitar la playa y quedarte allí todo el día disfrutando en familia, o puedes hacer lo que yo hice si eres amante del senderismo como yo puedes realizar un sendero improvisado por toda la sierra protegida de "caparica" que en realidad son las dunas y disfrutar de las vistas, los miradores, el bosque "de las dunas" y mientras vas haciendo el recorrido vas leyendo sobre el ecosistema y aprender algo muy interesante e histórico; pero ten cuidado si haces esta caminata en verano prepárate es demasiado exigente, muy calurosa estarás expuesto al sol varias horas, no lo recomiendo a niños o personas con problemas de salud.🙂🌼🗺️

To be honest, I didn't expect to see so many animals and plants in such an arid and dry landscape. It probably helped that it was spring, and flowers attract a lot of insects. Besides, the flowers decorate the landscape in such a way that parts of the hike seem like something out of a science fiction movie! The larger mammals are nocturnal, and there are even foxes around here! I saw lots of lizards.🐝
Si les soy sincero, ¡no esperaba ver tantos animales y plantas en una geografía tan árida y seca, posiblemente me favoreció que estamos en primavera y las flores atraen muchos insectos además las flores decoran el paisaje de una forma que hay partes de la caminata que parecen salidas de una película de ciencia ficción! ¡Los mamíferos de porte mayor son nocturnos e inclusive hay zorros por aquí! Vi muchos lagartos.🐗🦎
The trail and its 14km🗺️🌅 / El sendero y sus 14km🌍🧭

If you follow my trips on HIVE you surely read when I did that trail, the GR11 E9, it goes through a large part of the dunes and is quite popular within the European community because it has a length of five thousand kilometers and that means it passes through all of Portugal from end to end. I had the privilege of completing 40km. You can also do other alternative trails around here, as they are dunes and it is a protected area, you cannot ride bicycles or motorcycles.🌍
Si acompañas mis viajes en HIVE seguramente leístas cuando hice ese sendero el GR11 E9, pasa por una gran parte de las dunas y es bastante popular dentro de la comunidad europea porque tiene una extensión de cinco mil kilómetros y eso hace que pase por todo Portugal de punta a punta yo tuve el privilegio de completar 40km, también puedes hacer otros senderos alternativos por aquí, como son dunas y es un área protegida no puedes andar ni en bicicleta ni en motos.🚩🗺️

I think what motivated me to visit these dunes was when I read that due to their great historical and scientific contribution, they were classified as the most important dunes in Western Europe because they are 10 million years old, dating exactly from the (Pliocene) era! All these plateaus that we see in the photos were covered by water, that is, the water level rose up to about 200 meters high, the movement of the tectonic plates added to the great earthquake of the 17th century caused the water level to drop and retreat towards the Atlantic, exposing the plateaus to what we see today.😮🚙
Creo que lo que me motivo a visitar estas dunas es cuando leí que por su gran aporte histórico y científico fueron clasificadas como las dunas más importantes de Europa Occidental porque tienen 10 millones de años, datan exactamente de la era del (Plioceno)! Todas estas mesetas que vemos en las fotos estaban cubiertas de agua, o sea el nivel de agua subía hasta unos 200 metros de altura, el movimiento de las placas tectónicas sumado al gran terremoto del siglo 17 hicieron que el agua bajara su nivel y se retrajera hacia el atlántico exponiendo las mesetas a lo que vemos hoy en día.📕🏔️
A strange landscape🗺️🌅 / Un paisaje extraño🌍🧭
So many dunes with that color make it seem like we're hiking on Mars—not a common sight in Portugal! I've visited several places along the coast, and none of them have this type of plateau! You're in the presence of a landscape unique in Europe.😮🙂
Tantas dunas con ese color parece como si estuviéramos haciendo una caminata en Marte, ¡no es algo muy común en Portugal! Ya visite varios lugares de la costa y ninguna tienen este tipo de mesetas! osea estas en presencia de un paisaje único en Europa.🚩📕
A forest in the middle of the dunes🗺️🌅 / Un bosque en medio de las dunas🌍🧭
The forest where we are passing right now has its history, and it clearly doesn't fit in the middle of such an arid landscape! It's like an oasis in a desert but without water hehe, this forest doesn't belong to the geography of the region and therefore it was ordered to be built and planted by one of the kings of Portugal in the 17th century (João V) what happened is that there were settlers near the dunes who had plantations and the dunes were moving further and further away from the coast which put the king on alert, since the plantations could be damaged in response he ordered the construction of this forest which he called "mata dos medos" which also translates as mata of the dunes.🐗🦎🗺️
¡El bosque donde estamos pasando ahora mismo tiene su historia, y claramente no encaja en medio de un paisaje tan árido! Es como el oasis en un desierto pero sin agua jeje, este bosque no pertenece a la geografia de la región y, por tanto, fue mandando a construir y plantar por uno de los reyes de Portugal en el siglo XVII (João V) lo que sucedió es que había pobladores cerca de las dunas que tenían plantaciones y las dunas estaban corriéndose cada vez más fuera de la costa lo que puso en alerta al rey, ya que podrían dañarse las plantaciones como respuesta mando a construir este bosque el cual llamo "mata dos medos" que tambien se traduce como mata de las dunas.🫅🏻
