Climate Change Solution
The gas responsible for most global warming is carbon dioxide, also called CO2. The abnormally high amount of CO2 today, comes mostly from man burning fossil fuels. There are three major forms of fossil fuels: coal, oil and natural gas. All three were formed hundreds of millions of years ago. As algae, trees and plants died, they sank to the bottom of the swamps and oceans. They formed layers of a spongy material called peat. Over many millions of years, the peat was covered by sand and clay and other minerals, which turned into a type of rock called sedimentary. More and more rock piled on top of more rock, and it weighed more and more. It began to press down on the peat. The peat was squeezed and squeezed until the water came out of it and it eventually, over millions of years, turned into coal, oil, or natural gas.
Algae, plants and trees consume sunlight and CO2 and create a by product of Oxygen.
The Earth is an ecosystem where nothing is created or destroyed, just converted. Just as humans have used fossil fuels to convert to energy with a by product of CO2, we can use algae to “consume” CO2. Algae can reproduce very rapidly, faster than any other plant, and there are tens of thousands of species of algae, with more constantly being discovered. Algae is also an excellent food source for many fish, crustaceans, insects and amphibians.
It is very simple and easy to help facilitate large algae blooms in the ocean. I am not talking about the harmful algae blooms man facilitates through the use of fertilizers and the subsequent runoffs.
Instead of spending trillions of dollars to try to stop global warming, spend millions to create algae blooms in the ocean.
