Prologue
The switch from Chaos Legion to Conclave Arcana has been rough for me. Even though I was very excited about the release and the cards I got, I was still surprised that it didn't even get me a Silver-League-Deck. I bought quite a few more starter packs to at least get some of those cards up to speed, but especially the Archons are lagging.
And then the new meta! I'm losing a lot more games now due to that, but that's also my own fault - I should be doing a lot of training sessions to get the combinations right and see what to do.
At the beginning, it was all overwhelming. I didn't feel like playing at all. Didn't register to tournaments (which was actually a good thing, because I got sick and couldn't play anyway), and just did my brawl sessions (at least that I got right). Now, I'm feeling a little better, and although I have a lot of work backed up, I want to spend time to get into the new Splinterlands. While I wanted to hide in the corner and cry before, I'm now getting more and more excited. I hope that will last!
The new normal aka Modern
Modern was very hard in the first few days. Those who already had good Rebellion decks were in advantage, of course, and if they had bought a ton of CA-Pre-Sale packs, they just squashed the rest. That was too be expected.
The good thing is that it's not only me. I encounter quite a few other players who don't have their decks leveled up. Sure, here and there you are matched against a max-set, was always, but it's not as common as it was. I just played a few rounds to feel the weather, and it's getting better. I play against summoners around my own levels, and that is good.
Time to get those new Archons up to level 4! I really want to tip my toes into the new possibilities there, cross summoning dwarfs and elves and ulunds and all that, using those fancy new abilities - and my black foils! I hope they'll serve me well!
Critique - the switch
Okay, honestly, that didn't go well. I didn't like that they did the change 2 days before EOS, that didn't make any sense to me. I'm pretty sure that they had good reason for it, but it did disrupt the game play a lot, in Tournaments, Brawls and Modern. I know they tried to mitigate that, but I hope it will be a learning experience for next time.
It felt very much like a hard landing. Even though we were able to see some videos on new game play, it was not possible to practice for those who are not on the Mav-Server.
Of course, one can prepare, have their modern rank done before the 2 days before EOS, but not everyone is reading on HIVE. Not everyone informs themselves. It's like in real politics - of course it would be great to have all citizens on an equal level of information, but that's not the case. And yet, the state has to account for those citizens as well.
Suggestion
A transition phase. One season were either all three editions are playable in modern, in order to learn the new meta. Or, even better - install the update, but disable the new edition in modern/wild/survival, but have it available in the training mode. That way, we can play modern like it was, and start learning the new meta via training.
Conclusion
The frustration will be there for a few days I guess, until the excitement overtakes it and I really start to get the vibes - and start winning a few more battles, of course. I'm glad to see that modern is kind of the same it was. I don't expect to make it to Diamond 1, but staying around D3 would be great. We'll see!
I'll keep building my deck. The starter packs are really ideal for that, a great idea. And it seems like most of the CA-Cards have a good use in game play, but I'm still waiting for
@bravetofu Tier-List to see how that works. Although his is for Champions-League, so maybe I have to make one for Silver-League 😅
