The Art of Synergy – My Favorite Combos in Splinterlands

2025-03-28T18:55:15

This week’s challenge is all about synergy – those magical combos where two or more cards just click and create absolute chaos for the opponent (in the best way possible). And honestly, there are tons of card pairings I use on a daily basis that give me that "heck yeah!" feeling when they play out just right.
Let me walk you through some of my go-to combos — some are popular, others maybe a bit less common, but all of them are powerful in their own right.

Fungus Flinger + Quora Towershead + Venari Marksrat

This combo is one of my most-used in brawls and Modern league battles.
The idea is simple but deadly: stack Quora with buffs before she even gets a turn.
Fungus Flinger and Venari Marksrat are cheap sacrificial units with Martyr.
When they fall (and they usually do fast), they buff Quora’s health, damage, and speed.
That’s two Martyr boosts right away – turning Quora into a self-healing beast with double strike magic and melee. Not many can stand in her way once she gets going.
Even stronger when you can bring a extra healer along.

Baakjira + Kulu Mastermind

/images.hive.blog/150x0/https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/soulbound/Kulu%20Mastermind_lv4.png
This one’s my favorite, hands down.
Baakjira is already a brick wall with Void, Slow, and Heal, but guess what happens when you give that wall a weapon?
Enter Kulu Mastermind.
With Weapons Training, Baakjira gains a magic attack – and because Baakjira is so hard to take down, he sticks around and keeps chipping away while soaking up hits.
It’s a combo that wins games by simply outlasting and outpacing the opponent. And yeah, I’ll admit it — I use this setup a lot.
Here my proof:

Pelacor Conjurer + Aves Sturgis

/images.hive.blog/150x0/https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/soulbound/Aves%20Sturgis_lv4.png
This one’s more niche but works really well in low mana or Little League battles.
Pelacor Conjurer is already one of the best Commons with Flying, Magic Reflect, and Phase.
Now, toss Aves Sturgis into the mix and suddenly this zero-attack tank is dishing out magic damage while being super evasive.
It’s a low-cost annoyance for your enemy that often trades up in value. Plus, who doesn’t love a 2-mana frontline that punches back?

Iziar + Adelade Brightwing

/images.hive.blog/150x0/https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/chaos/Adelade%20Brightwing_lv4.png
This is more of a control synergy — Iziar’s Taunt draws all the fire, while Adelade stands in the back ready with Resurrect and Repair.
And because Iziar is beefy, it’s not uncommon to see Adelade resurrect her twice in one match (once from herself, once from another support card).
Each time she does, Adelade triggers her Blast shield buff, giving your team more survivability.
It’s one of those setups that feels unfair when it works smoothly — in your favor, of course 😄

Let’s See It In Action!

As much as I love all those combos above, I gotta give the spotlight to my favorite: Baakjira + Kulu Mastermind.
Here’s a recent battle that really shows how powerful this pairing can be when played right.

Take a look at the enemy lineup — a seriously strong team on paper. But even with all that power, I managed to shatter through it thanks to Kulu Mastermind playing a key role.
With its Opportunity ability, Kulu picked off the weaker backline units one by one, dismantling their support and turning the tide in my favor.
Meanwhile, Baakjira tanked up front, now with a magic attack from Kulu’s Weapons Training, slowly wearing them down.
It’s a beautiful combo of pressure and sustain.

This one was a real grind — it even went into fatigue rounds, but still ended in a strong win.
And once again, the MVP was clearly Kulu Mastermind. That extra magic attack it gave to Baakjira made all the difference in wearing down the opponent over time.
In long matches like this, every bit of damage counts — and this synergy proved its worth.

💭 Closing Thoughts

There you have it — some of my favorite combos, with my top pick (Baakjira + Kulu Mastermind) fully demonstrated in battle. I absolutely love playing this synergy — it's fun, it's strong, and it often turns the tide in my favor.
But there’s a little caveat...
In just a few months, this combo won’t be playable in Modern anymore 😢
Once Conclave Arcana (CA) drops, both Baakjira and Kulu will rotate out of the format. That’s going to shake things up quite a bit.
Right now, my Rebellion deck is still pretty low-level, so I’m really curious to see how things unfold when CA enters the mix. I’m planning to grab some CA cards for sure, but probably not enough to go full-on Gold or Diamond right away. Time will tell...
Are you getting ready for CA?
Would love to hear what combos you’re planning to build around once the format changes!
Until next time — good luck and have fun out there on the battlefield ⚔️
