The beautiful color seems to radiate a taste that is so appetizing to the tongue. This is called visually beautiful, delicious in taste and traditional. Well, this traditional cake really makes everyone crazy. Sweet, beautifully colored like a flower in the garden.
We call it Talam Sago Mutiara Cake. Talam Cake which in English is a bowl, follows the shape of the container, sago pearls, like Taiwanese boba but smaller in size and plain in taste.
Colored sago pearls usually come in various colors, some are white but in the market there are usually many that are red. Actually it's like mixed but the dominant white color is covered by some red sago colors. That's what's on the market, sometimes you can't choose.
This time I made sago pearls into a beautiful and legit traditional cake, it tastes sweet, a little fatty but still has a beautiful visual. Are you curious about how to make it like this?
The Ingredients of Kue Talam Sago Mutiara
- 1 pack of sago pearls (100 gr)
- 1 liter of water
- 90 gr of rice flour
- 40 gr of tapioca flour
- 100 gr of sugar
- 500 ml of coconut milk (60 ml thick, the rest is water)
- Pinch of salt
How to Make Kue Talam Sago Mutiara:
- One pack of raw sago pearls must be boiled first. The method is to boil the water until it really boils, then put it in the boiling water. I once tried to cook it from warm water, what happened was all the sago pearls became lumps of sago flour. So that the taste of the sago pearls is not too plain, I added a little stevia sugar.
- While waiting 30 minutes for the sago pearls to be completely cooked, I prepared another dough in a bowl. Rice flour, tapioca flour and sugar were mixed using 300 ml of water that I had added thick coconut milk to. - Mix the flour and coconut milk mixture, divide into 2 mixtures.
- The first mixture is given filtered sago pearls, the second mixture is given a little salt to make it taste saltier with coconut milk.
- Heat the steamer, prepare the mixture in a bowl. Brush with a little oil first then put the sago pearls in the first mixture then heat in the first stage.
- After 7 minutes, put in the second mixture which we then wait for 8 minutes for all the talam cake mixture to be ready to serve.
- Wait for the mixture to cool down before the talam cake can be removed from the bowl. It tastes sweet, soft and delicious! Perfect with cold americano in the afternoon.
