Hello hive art lovers
Today I’m sharing the process of my recent gouache painting featuring juicy 🍓 and lush 🌱. I wanted this piece to burst with colour and life ~ something that feels both fresh and vibrant.
MATERIALS USED
- himi gouache paints
- Round brushes (size 0 to 2 for detailing)
- White gel pen for highlights
STEP BY STEP
- Sketching the composition ~ I lightly sketched a rough outline of strawberries and leaves using a pencil. I kept the layout dense for a packed look.
- Base layer ~ u painted the base for strawberries a deep red and the leaves a light green.
- Seeds ~ I detailed the seeds and added highlights and reflections.
Background ~ I added a black background to block in the colours and add definition.
Detailing the leaves ~ then I added veins and hinge lights and shadows on leaves.
- Finishing details ~ I added some last details in a small round brush and white gel pen. Also some shadows to highlight the main colours.
This was such a fun study in colour blending and realism. It taught me a lot about balancing vibrant reds with complex greens.
