Hello! Dear and valued artisan family, in this tutorial I will be taking apart this pretty dress 🤭 I'm sorry, or rather, I will be "transforming" this dress for a client to make a two-piece set for a little girl. The dress had a very pretty design, as you can see in the following image; this is how it looked before the complete transformation. It was a fitted dress, but the advantage of the dress is that it is completely stretchy, and for the design she had in mind for how she wanted the set, the fabric lends itself very well, and I think it will fit the little girl we will be making it for, since she is small.
If you'd like to fully appreciate the process and are thinking about how to transform your clothes for your daughter or your clients, this is the tutorial that will get you out of a bind and teach you how to transform those dresses you have at home. I hope you like it and find it very helpful and that you can learn. Practice makes perfect, as I've always said, so let's get started with the materials.

Pasos a seguir: | Steps to follow:

Paso 01
Step 01
The first thing every seamstress does before altering or unpicking is to think clearly about the design we will make and the transformation. In this case, my client wanted leggings with a tank top, so I had to completely disassemble all the pieces of my dress. I disassembled them with a thread cutter; you can do it with whatever tools are easiest for you. Then I completely unpicked the pieces along the seams and the front, leaving the dress pieces open and vertically complete. Next, we will take the measurements or patterns to proceed to cut the pieces. To mark the length of the leggings, I used my chalk, as well as the tank top. In this case, I used the measurements of the girl for whom I was making this outfit as a reference.

Paso 02
Step 02
We then proceed to sew our leggings. In this case, I left the hem that the dress part had. Next, we will join the crotch piece of the front parts of the leggings, then the back pieces, and we will completely join the leggings at the crotch and sides, joining hem to hem.

Paso 03
Step 03
It's time to sew our waistband. To do this, I'll join the sides along the length of the fabric, then fold it and place it inside out of my leggings. I'll sew the edge, joining the sides with the waistband seam. Next, I'll make two holes in the front, leaving a 1.5 cm gap, and place two leftover gold metal rings from the same dress on each side. I've sewn these by hand, leaving a small fabric border when cutting them and sewing them on the inside. Now we'll sew the blouse seam, since it was unstitched right at the seam.

Paso 04
Step 04
Before attaching the waistband to the front of the blouse, we'll place a piece of fabric under the gold-colored metal rings to conceal it. This piece is the same length as the blouse, extending to the waistband seam, and is 10 cm wide. Then, we'll sew the waistband. To seal the shoulders, we'll hem the blouse, and finally, we'll sew the bias binding for the armholes, just like we did for the neckline. Don't forget to iron the pieces after sewing and remove any loose threads. That's how our garment will be finished.

Resultado: | Result:
These are the final results of our project, showing the before and after of our transformation. Although it was a challenge for me, I didn't forget that this talent makes me practice more and more 🤭 and every time I try, I feel like I'm improving techniques I didn't know before. Without a doubt, the effort put into each transformation becomes more noticeable over time, and that's something that personally fills me with satisfaction as a seamstress. If you liked it, don't forget to share and leave me a nice comment! Cheers! 😊✨❤️
