Small Garden Activities In The Last Week Of April

2025-04-23T01:23:33

I always make sure that even the smallest resources can be something of great value. The first and most important thing to do is to be grateful. By being grateful I can open many more doors. By being grateful I will also feel enough that out there there are still many people who cannot feel what I feel.

A small garden in my rental house, although I don't have it forever. I've only been here for a year, but I take care of it as much as possible. What I can do. I arrange a small space so that it looks good and can be productive in producing vegetables that I can cook in my kitchen.
Even though it's only a small area, I am very grateful because it's not necessarily true that a large area that someone has can be utilized well. Right?
Previously, you may have also read my gardening journal in early April. Where I started to focus on gardening after the previous month I focused on fasting.
In early April I focused on planting plants that grow quickly and without prior seeding. Then I also prepared some gardening equipment that I had never had before.

Now I slowly feel my gardening equipment is getting more complete, although of course I have to add other things to make my garden more productive and maximized. Let me show you some updates at the end of April in my happy little garden.

Water Spinach Plants

In mid-April I harvested this water spinach plant which I also posted on Hive. I harvested them by cutting the stems and not pulling out their roots.
After that I did organic fertilization so that the stems that had been cut could sprout again.

This is the latest update of the water Spinner plant that grew back from the stems that had been cut after fertilizing for several days. The night of the following week, these water spinach plants can be harvested again.

Baby Green Beans

Some time ago I also showed you the process of seeding baby green beans. With a type of plant that does not creep and has black seeds.
Baby green bean plants grow amazingly. Their development is very good, and they also sprout quickly in a few days.
After sprouting, I moved the tiny baby green bean plants to an area that did not get full sunlight so that they would be strong and well-nourished.
The leaves of the baby green beans have a beautiful shape. Usually from the afternoon until the evening, they will close and actually look like a heart. Oh, so cute!

I also moved the green bean seedlings to a larger planting medium. I used a white polybag measuring 30x30 cm.

The afternoon before sunset the weather was very good. I prepared to move the baby green bean plants. The day before, I had prepared the planting medium with the polybags. So this afternoon I only needed to move them. So it didn't take much time before it really got dark.

Look at the baby green bean plants that have been transplanted, they look charming. I hope they can survive the hot weather here.

Bitter Mustard Greens

Currently, the bitter mustard greens seedlings are 14 days old after planting. I don't know what went wrong.
Bitter mustard greens seedlings look purple. This is the first time I've experienced this. Do you know about this?

I just pray that in the next week, the mustard greens seedlings can be normal.

Pandan Plant

I have a new arrival in my small garden. There is a pandan plant that can usually be used to make desserts.
A few days ago, I asked for this plant from my neighbor. After being transplanted, the pandan plant looks to be growing well.

Shallots

After successfully planting shallots in my old garden at that time, I decided to replant them in my mini garden.

A few days after sowing, they grew well. There are still shallot seeds attached to the tips of the seedlings.

It's really beautiful, with a charming sky background. 🥰

Compost Life

I'm always excited about compost life because to make compost consistently. Collecting kitchen waste also collects cardboard files and then cuts them into small pieces.

It feels like just collecting things that are worthless. But after doing gardening activities I learned that organic waste can actually be fertilizer that has good benefits for plants. Of course I can save on buying compost by making my own compost.
I collect my kitchen waste such as vegetable scraps that are not cooked fruit skins and others. But I do not add animal elements at all because it will make the compost smell later.
I have also cut used cardboard into small pieces so that it will be easy to break down with other organic waste.

In the first layer I will add ready-to-use compost or soil in general is also fine. After the soil layer is added to the composting container, add organic waste. Then, add pieces of cardboard or other brown waste such as dry leaves. then in the last layer add more soil or compost.
Repeat these steps every time you are going to add more organic waste. Do this until the composting container is full. I use a used drinking water gallon container which I will then cover with black plastic to prevent sunlight from entering.

Small maggots start to roam from the process of decomposing organic waste. Don't be afraid because this is part of the compost life!

These are the activities in my small garden. Hopefully you can be enthusiastic too To utilize the small land in your house until we meet again in the next garden journal.
