Desde hace meses venía pensando en la idea de hacer velas, esta idea surgió desde algo muy concreto: diciembre, los recuerditos, los detalles sencillos, bonitos y accesibles que la gente suele buscar para regalar. La idea estuvo ahí un tiempo, hasta que en noviembre decidí hacer algo al respecto.
Ese mes hice cursos, tanto de velas como de macetas de yeso. Aprendí lo básico, pero también algo muy importante: uno no puede esperar tener todos los recursos perfectos para empezar. Hay que arrancar con lo que se tiene e ir mejorando en el camino. Y así lo hice.
For months, I had been thinking about the idea of making candles. This idea came from something very specific: December, souvenirs, simple, beautiful, and affordable gifts that people often look for to give. The idea was there for a while, until in November I decided to do something about it.
That month, I took courses on both candle making and plaster pot making. I learned the basics, but also something very important: you can't expect to have all the perfect resources to get started. You have to start with what you have and improve along the way. And that's what I did.
Los primeros días fueron bastante agotadores. Hacía las velas de noche, después del trabajo, entre el cansancio y las ganas de que quedaran bien. Al principio producía pocas, pero poco a poco me fueron pidiendo más variedad y eso me llevó a buscar nuevos moldes. Mis favoritos terminaron siendo los de Navidad —Santa, renitos— y también los religiosos, que tienen un significado especial para mí.
Hice varias velas para mi casa, para probar, para ver cómo quedaban, y luego armé una cajita con velitas pequeñas y me las llevé al trabajo. Se las mostré a mis compañeros, casi sin muchas expectativas, y para mi sorpresa se vendieron. Ese fue un momento muy bonito: ver que algo hecho con mis manos, con tiempo y cuidado, a otros les gustaba y se lo llevaban.
The first few days were quite exhausting. I made the candles at night, after work, tired but eager to make them look good. At first, I made only a few, but little by little, people started asking me for more variety, which led me to look for new molds. My favorites ended up being the Christmas ones—Santa, reindeer—and also the religious ones, which have a special meaning for me.
I made several candles for my home, to test them out and see how they turned out, and then I put together a box of small candles and took them to work. I showed them to my coworkers, without much expectation, and to my surprise, they sold. That was a very nice moment: seeing that something I had made with my own hands, with time and care, was liked by others and taken home.
Hacer velas tiene su ciencia. No es solo derretir cera y verterla en un molde. Si no se trabaja a la temperatura correcta, el resultado no es el esperado. Todo hay que hacerlo como si fuera para uno mismo, con la mejor calidad posible y con la práctica fui notando cómo cada vez salían mejor, sobre todo al pintarlas a mano, que requiere pulso, paciencia y tiempo.
La paciencia, de hecho, es una de las grandes lecciones de este emprendimiento. El proceso es lento, hay que respetar tiempos, esperar lo necesario para que la vela esté lista. Más de una vez me pasó que por sacarlas antes de tiempo se partían. Eran errores, sí, pero también parte del aprendizaje.
Making candles is a science. It's not just melting wax and pouring it into a mold. If you don't work at the right temperature, the result is not what you expect. Everything has to be done as if it were for yourself, with the best possible quality, and with practice I noticed how they turned out better and better, especially when painting them by hand, which requires a steady hand, patience, and time.
Patience, in fact, is one of the great lessons of this endeavor. The process is slow; you have to respect the timing and wait as long as necessary for the candle to be ready. More than once, I took them out too early and they broke. They were mistakes, yes, but also part of the learning process.
Me siento muy contenta cada vez que alguien se lleva una velita mía. Poner los precios no fue tan difícil, quizás porque en mi trabajo ya estoy acostumbrada a hacerlo, pero aun así siempre hay algo especial en valorar lo que uno crea. Me gusta pensar que estas velas pueden acompañar no solo espacios, sino también momentos de fe, oración o agradecimiento.
Durante noviembre y los primeros días de diciembre estuve muy activa con el emprendimiento. Luego tuve que detenerme cuando me ocurrió lo de la trombosis. Aun así, incluso en reposo, logré vender algunas velas más, lo que sentí como una pequeña señal de que el proyecto podía seguir, aunque fuera a otro ritmo.
I feel very happy every time someone buys one of my candles. Setting prices wasn't that difficult, perhaps because I'm used to doing it in my job, but even so, there's always something special about valuing what you create. I like to think that these candles can accompany not only spaces, but also moments of faith, prayer, or gratitude.
During November and the first days of December, I was very active with the venture. Then I had to stop when I had the thrombosis. Even so, even while resting, I managed to sell a few more candles, which I felt was a small sign that the project could continue, albeit at a different pace.
Hoy veo Essentia by Ambar como parte de una etapa en la que estoy aprendiendo a cuidar mejor mis finanzas, a ahorrar, a invertir y a tener metas claras. Este emprendimiento está ligado a un sueño grande: poder ir a la JMJ en Corea del Sur. Y aunque el camino sea paso a paso, siento que cada vela suma.
Me gustaría que este proyecto siga creciendo, que me tomen en cuenta para eventos como bautizos, primeras comuniones, cumpleaños, y también poder crear modelos únicos, distintos, que no tenga nadie más. Velas que no solo decoren, sino que acompañen, iluminen y hagan sentir a gusto a quienes las encienden.

Today, I see Essentia by Ambar as part of a stage in which I am learning to take better care of my finances, to save, to invest, and to have clear goals. This venture is linked to a big dream: to be able to go to World Youth Day in South Korea. And even though the path is step by step, I feel that every candle counts.
I would like this project to continue growing, to be considered for events such as baptisms, first communions, birthdays, and also to be able to create unique, different models that no one else has. Candles that not only decorate, but also accompany, illuminate, and make those who light them feel comfortable.
