The Kingdom of Bhutan maintains a mono-culture enforced by the powers that be, especially the polygamous royalty and their crony advisers (e.g., people are forced to wear a 'national dress' among other draconian edicts).
Bhutan is also prohibitively expensive to visit--a daily fee of hundreds of dollars per pax is mandated along with a requisite guide-cum-chaperone. That is, foreigners (excepting Indian nationals) cannot visit without having a local person beside them, watching them at all times.
Most egregious of all, they waged a recent pogrom against citizens of Nepali descent--even multi-generational citizens.
Not exactly the Gross National Happiness Shangrila that an 'elite' ruling gang would have you believe. More like Crony Socialism with 'elite' ruling crocodiles overmastering the will and freedom of the people.
