Te voy a contar una historia.
Hace unos años, fui a una carrera de cross-country con unos amigos. No porque me guste correr, sinceramente prefiero una buena hamburguesa, sino porque me convencieron con el clásico “vamos, va a estar divertido”.
Llegamos al evento y el ambiente era increíble, música, gente emocionada, corredores calentando… todo se sentía lleno de energía.
Pero hubo algo que me llamó mucho la atención.
Había dos tipos de personas, los que estaban en la línea de salida listos para correr, y los que estaban al lado del camino solo observando. Unos aplaudían, otros tomaban fotos, pero al final, ellos estaban ahí solo mirando.
Cuando empezó la carrera, me di cuenta de algo. Mucha gente dice que sigue a Jesús, pero en realidad solo están al lado del camino, viéndolo pasar.
Vivimos en un mundo donde es fácil decir “yo creo en Dios”. Publicamos versículos en redes sociales, compartimos videos motivacionales y hasta escuchamos prédicas de vez en cuando.
¿Estoy realmente siguiendo a Jesús.?
Pero creer en Jesús no es solo un “me gusta” en Facebook o un “amén” en un comentario.
La Biblia dice en Santiago 2:19: “Tú crees que Dios es uno; bien haces. También los demonios creen, y tiemblan.”
¡Auch! En otras palabras, creer en Dios no es suficiente si no estamos caminando en sus pasos. Porque incluso los demonios creen… y claramente ellos no lo siguen.
Así que me pregunto, ¿Estoy realmente siguiendo a Jesús o solo lo estoy observando desde la orilla?
Jesús no vino al mundo a buscar admiradores. Él no está interesado en los que lo aplauden desde lejos. Él busca seguidores, personas que estén dispuestas a caminar el camino que Él caminó.
En Lucas 9:23, Jesús dice, “Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz cada día, y sígame.”
Notas que no dice “mírame desde lejos” o “hazme una ovación”. Dice: "sígueme".
Incluso los demonios creen en Él… pero no lo siguen
Seguir a Jesús significa caminar en sus pasos, y eso cambia por completo la forma en que vivimos.
Pero… ¿qué significa caminar en sus pasos?
Aquí es donde la cosa se pone interesante. Porque seguir a Jesús no es solo ir a la iglesia los domingos, es un estilo de vida.
Es tener una relación real con Dios, Jesús oraba constantemente, si Él, siendo el Hijo de Dios, necesitaba estar en comunión con el Padre, imagina cuánto podríamos necesitarlo nosotros.
Tener una relación real con Dios es...
Vivir en obediencia. No se trata de hacer lo que nos conviene, sino lo que Dios nos llama a hacer. Y sí, a veces nos cuesta, pero cuando seguimos a Jesús, aprendemos a confiar en que su camino siempre es mejor.
Amar como Él amó. Jesús amaba incluso a los que lo traicionaban. No nos llamó a amar solo a los que nos caen bien, sino también a los difíciles. Sí, incluso a ese compañero de trabajo insoportable.
Servir con humildad. Jesús lavó los pies de sus discípulos. ¿Cuántos estamos dispuestos a servir a otros?
Predicar con nuestra vida. No hace falta un micrófono para hablar de Jesús. Solo necesitamos ser ejemplo, nuestras acciones predican más que nuestras palabras.
Volviendo a la carrera, terminé cruzando la meta después de mucho esfuerzo y con las piernas temblando. Pero lo que más me impactó fue que los que solo estaban observando al inicio, nunca experimentaron la emoción de correr y el desafío y la satisfacción de llegar a la meta.
Lo mismo pasa con Jesús.
Si solo lo observamos desde lejos, nos perderemos la aventura, los milagros, el crecimiento y la transformación que trae caminar con Él.
Así que hoy te pregunto...
¿Estás caminando en los pasos de Jesús o solo estás viéndolo pasar?
I'm going to tell you a story.
A few years ago, I went to a cross-country race with some friends. Not because I like running—I honestly prefer a good burger—but because they convinced me with the classic "come on, it's going to be fun."
We arrived at the event, and the atmosphere was incredible: music, excited people, runners warming up... everything felt energized.
But there was something that really caught my attention.
There were two kinds of people: those at the starting line ready to run, and those on the side of the road just watching. Some were clapping, others were taking photos, but at the end, they were just there watching.
When the race started, I realized something. Many people say they follow Jesus, but in reality, they're just on the side of the road, watching Him go by.
We live in a world where it's easy to say, "I believe in God." We post verses on social media, share motivational videos, and even listen to sermons from time to time.
Am I really following Jesus?
But believing in Jesus isn't just a "like" on Facebook or an "amen" in a comment.
The Bible says in James 2:19: "You believe that there is one God; you do well. Even the demons believe and tremble."
Ouch! In other words, believing in God isn't enough if we're not walking in His footsteps. Because even the demons believe… and clearly they don't follow Him.
So I ask myself, am I really following Jesus or am I just watching from the sidelines?
Jesus didn't come into the world looking for admirers. He's not interested in those who applaud Him from afar. He seeks followers, people who are willing to walk the path He walked.
In Luke 9:23, Jesus says, “If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
Notice He doesn't say “look at Me from afar” or “give Me a shout.” He says, “follow Me.”
Even the demons believe in Him… but don't follow Him
Following Jesus means walking in His footsteps, and that completely changes the way we live.
But… what does it mean to walk in his footsteps?
This is where things get interesting. Because following Jesus isn't just going to church on Sundays, it's a lifestyle.
It's having a real relationship with God. Jesus prayed constantly. If He, being the Son of God, needed to be in communion with the Father, imagine how much we might need it.
Having a real relationship with God is...
Living in obedience. It's not about doing what's convenient for us, but what God calls us to do. And yes, sometimes it's hard for us, but when we follow Jesus, we learn to trust that his way is always better.
Loving as He loved. Jesus loved even those who betrayed him. He didn't call us to love only those we like, but also the difficult ones. Yes, even that unbearable coworker.
Serving with humility. Jesus washed his disciples' feet. How many of us are willing to serve others?
Preach with our lives. We don't need a microphone to talk about Jesus. We just need to be an example; our actions speak louder than our words.
Back to the race, I finally crossed the finish line after a great effort and with my legs shaking. But what struck me most was that those who were only watching at the start never experienced the excitement of running and the challenge and satisfaction of reaching the finish line.
The same is true with Jesus.
If we only observe Him from afar, we will miss the adventure, the miracles, the growth, and the transformation that comes with walking with Him.
So today I ask you...
Are you walking in Jesus's footsteps or are you just watching Him go by?
