If I had to name one of the things that truly relax me, tree-shaded paths would definitely be on the list. Recently, I came across news about the destruction of the tree-lined boulevard near Jiji Train Station in Nantou, Taiwan. It reminded me of a trip I took there years ago, cycling happily with friends under the lush green canopy. That, in turn, made me reflect on how long it’s been since I last walked along a beautiful tree-lined path. So today, I’d like to share some photos that capture the charm of these green walkways.
When I first traveled to Canada, what left the deepest impression on me about my first B&B wasn’t the charming house itself, but rather the small paths nearby, lined with tall, majestic trees. It was the middle of summer, and the weather was scorching. Since most of the surrounding buildings were low-rise, there were no towering structures to block the sun. Plus, I quickly noticed that locals never used umbrellas for shade—they actually loved sunbathing! I didn’t want to stand out too much, so I avoided using an umbrella as well. Instead, I found myself deliberately seeking out tree-shaded paths for relief from the sun.
I still remember my first attempt at finding a nearby grocery store. Google Maps showed that the main road would get me there in just a 15-minute walk, which sounded pretty close. But as I walked, I quickly realized there was no shade at all—I was completely exposed to the direct sunlight. Sure, the bright blue sky was stunning, but after a few walks under the intense sun, I started paying close attention to shaded paths. The sunshine was beautiful, no doubt, but its intensity was something I couldn’t ignore.
Even though I ended up walking the same tree-lined paths every day, they never felt dull. In fact, every time I strolled through them, I felt an incredible sense of relaxation and contentment. Of course, not every moment of my travels was smooth sailing, but simply walking along these peaceful green paths felt like a quiet way to recharge. More often than not, a short walk was all it took to lift my spirits. And that’s why these simple yet beautiful paths have stayed with me as one of my most cherished travel memories.
