City Pune is the second largest city in the Maharashtra state. People who have lived in Pune are used to calling it as Poona. The city was called Poona since the British rule. It is the seventh most populated city. It is 560 meters above the sea level and is on the Deccan Plateau. Pune is the cultural capital of Maharashtra and the people living in Pune are rooted and cultured. The city is also known as the ‘Oxford of the East’ because of the various institutions. It is also the city, which has the highest number of the youth population. It is the major educational hub and has a lot of foreign students as well that come and study in Pune. The Badminton game was also developed in Pune and it was earlier called as Poona. It is also the fastest growing cities in the country and is also a youth hub. The city was earlier known as Punawadi in the 13th century.
