TL;DR; for non-Korean
Transferwise, one of the famous small-amount foreign exchange/transfer company, is going to reduce(well, in general) its USD to KRW exchange/transfer fee starting from coming Feb 19th.
Hello, we have some news.
On February 19th, our fees on transfers from USD to KRW are changing. They’ll go up a little for some transfer amounts, and down for others.
Here's how much your transfers will cost, depending on the amount you send:
Amount Old fee New fee Difference Type
$100 $3.00 $2.70 -$0.30 Direct Debit
$250 $3.80 $4.50 +$0.70 Direct Debit
$500 $7.50 $7.50 $0.00 Direct Debit
$750 $11.30 $10.50 -$0.80 Direct Debit
$1,000 $15.00 $13.50 -$1.50 Direct Debit
$2,500 $37.50 $31.50 -$6.00 Direct Debit
$5,000 $75.00 $61.50 -$13.50 Direct Debit
$10,000 $135.00 $106.50 -$28.50 Wire
$25,000 $315.00 $264.00 -$51.00 Wire
$50,000 $615.00 $526.50 -$88.50 Wire
The fee used to be 1.5% on amounts up to $5,000, and 1.2% on any remaining amount over $5,000.
The new pricing will be:
• $1.50 + 1.20% for direct debit and debit cards
• $1.50 + 1.05% for wire transfers (note that your bank is likely to charge you $25-50, on top of our fees, for wires)
• $1.50 + 2.90% for credit cards
Why are we doing this?
When we opened for business in the US, we based our fees on how much we thought these transfers would cost us to process. It turns out that some of them cost a little more, while some cost a little less. The new fees cover our costs.
We know this isn't great news, and we're sorry about that. We'll bring the fees back down as soon as we can.
Thanks,
The TransferWise Team
