A warm greeting to everyone in the Open Mic community. In this week #256, we explore the theme: “Carnival”. I have the pleasure of sharing my interpretation with my trumpet of “Manhã de Carnaval”, a Bossa Nova song composed by Luiz Bonfá and the lyrics were written in Portuguese by Antônio Maria. This song appears as the central theme of the film Orfeu Negro, directed by Marcel Camus. The lyrics are melancholic and speak of farewell, reflecting the dawn after Carnival, when the euphoria fades away. This musical piece is a jazz standard with elements of samba, written in the key of B Minor. I have had the opportunity to hear versions by Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughan and Plácido Domingo. The harmony is quite sophisticated, with extended chords and chromatic movements. The acoustic guitar version is wonderful. I am sure my friend and brother @guitarmcy would perform it masterfully. Without a doubt, this work is an icon of Latin music.

Un cordial saludo para todos en la comunidad de Micrófono Abierto. En esta semana #256, exploramos la temática: "Carnaval". Tengo el placer de compartir mi interpretación con mi trompeta de «Manhã de Carnaval», una canción Bossa Nova compuesta por Luiz Bonfá y la letra fue escrita en portugués por Antônio Maria. Esta canción aparece como tema central de la película Orfeu Negro, dirigida por Marcel Camus. La letra es melancólica y habla de despedida, reflejando el amanecer después del Carnaval, cuando la euforia se desvanece. Esta pieza musical es un estándar del jazz con elementos de la samba, escrita en la tonalidad de B Menor. He tenido la oportunidad de escuchar versiones de Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughan y Plácido Domingo. La armonía es bastante sofisticada, con acordes extendidos y movimientos cromáticos. La versión en guitarra acústica es maravillosa. Estoy seguro de que mi amigo y hermano @guitarmcy la interpretarían magistralmente. Sin duda, esta obra es un ícono de la música latina.
The first thing that comes to mind when I read or hear the word carnival is rest, party, and beach. We live in a world where this holiday is interpreted and lived in different ways. In ancient times it was a pagan holiday, then it evolved and was readapted with the rise of Christianity. In our continent, there was a syncretism with European colonization, mixing with indigenous and African traditions. I remember that as a child I participated in floats with costumes and masks, and activities with traditional games. The craziest tradition of this time is to wet people with buckets, water balloons, and even the wild part of covering them with mud and paint. That is something that is more visible in the towns and in the popular communities of my country. I remember one time when I traveled to Puerto La Cruz and experienced one of the most fun carnivals, especially for the music and concerts. This season is an opportunity to charge ourselves with energy, rest and enjoy good traditions.

Lo primero que me viene a la mente cuando leo o escucho la palabra carnaval es descanso, fiesta y playa. Vivimos en un mundo donde esta fiesta se interpreta y se vive de maneras diferentes. En la antigüedad era una fiesta pagana, luego evolucionó y se readaptó con el surgimiento del cristianismo. En nuestro continente ocurrió un sincretismo con la colonización europea, mezclándose con tradiciones indígenas y africanas. Recuerdo que de niño fui partícipe en carrozas con disfraces y máscaras, y actividades con juegos tradicionales. La tradición más loca de esta época es mojar a las personas con baldés, globos de agua e incluso la parte salvaje de llenarlos de barro y pintura. Eso es algo que es más visible en los pueblos, y en las comunidades populares de mi país. Recuerdo una oportunidad en que viajé a Puerto La Cruz y viví uno de los carnavales más divertidos, sobre todo por la música y los conciertos. Esta temporada es una oportunidad de cargarnos de energía, descansar y disfrutar de las buenas tradiciones.
