Feeling eager to sew, today I looked for my folder where I keep my sewing patterns. These are courses I attended to learn how to make underwear for women and men alike. After many years, I must confess that I've lost some of the patterns I was working with, so I looked for this folder to make them again.
This method or way of working has saved me, since I always copy the patterns from the guides I have to use them. But I don't directly use the patterns from the guides to have that information available whenever I want. I don't have some, but I can copy them and use them again. Today I want to tell you about my way of copying them and the making of a pantyhose... Welcome.
Con ganas de coser hoy busqué mi carpeta donde guardo los patrones de costura, son cursos a los que asistí para aprender a confeccionar las prendas de ropa íntima de mujeres y de hombres también. Luego de muchos años debo confesar que he perdido algunos patrones con los que trabajaba, así que busqué esta carpeta para realizarlos nuevamente.
Ese método o forma de trabajo me ha salvado ya que siempre copio los patrones de las guías que tengo, para usarlos, pero no utilizo directamente los patrones de las guías para disponer de esa información cuando quiera, como es el caso que no tengo algunos, pero los puedo copiar y dispones nuevamente. Hoy les quiero contar sobre mi forma de copiarlos y la confección de una Panty... Bienvenidos.

I chose this "Sexy Panty" pattern, which is the name given to it by the teacher who gave us that class and tutorial. The pattern is spread over two sheets of paper. To copy it, I'll use this tool I call a "slice," which creates dots on the sheet of paper when I apply pressure.
I place the sheet of paper with the pattern to be copied and a white sheet of paper underneath. I secure them with pressure clips so they don't move during the copying process.
Escogí este patrón de "Panty Sexy", bueno ese es el nombre que le colocó la profesora que nos dio esa clase y guía. El patrón se encuentra distribuido en dos hojas. Para copiarlo utilizaré esta herramienta que yo la conozco como "rodaja" y ella lo que hace es que al ejercer presión se forman puntos en la hoja.
Coloco la hoja con el patrón a copiar y debajo coloco una hoja blanca, las sujeto con clips de presión para que no se muevan durante el proceso de copiar.
I trace the "slice" along the pattern in the size I chose to copy. I use a ruler to help me with the straight lines, and carefully trace the curved lines to accurately copy the shape.
When I remove the pattern, I'll have the entire pattern traced on the white sheet underneath. With scissors, I cut out the entire copied pattern and add all the markings and names for each piece.
Voy pasando la "rodaja" por el patrón en la talla que elegí copiar, en las líneas rectas me ayudo con una regla, y en las curvas paso con cuidado para copiar bien esa forma.
Al retirar retiro el patrón y tendré en la hoja blanca que estaba debajo, todo el patrón trazado. Con una tijera recorto todo el patrón copiado y coloco todas las señas y nombres de cada pieza.
Here I have the three pieces of this pantyhose. I have some notes about the design, which I also copied onto the pattern I cut out.
Now I'm putting my guide back in the folder, where it will be safe and secure for future reference. I'm one of those who always keeps notes and guides from the courses and workshops I've taken, and I'm very careful about taking care of them and maintaining them over time. Okay, now we move on to making them.
Aquí ya tengo las 3 piezas de esta panty. Tengo algunas anotaciones sobre el diseño, que también copio en el patrón que recorté.
Ahora guardo nuevamente mi guía en la carpeta, donde estará bien resguardada para el futuro disponer de toda la información. Soy de las que guarda siempre apuntes y guías de los cursos y talleres que he realizado y soy muy celosa de cuidarlas y mantenerlas en el tiempo. Bueno, ahora sí vamos a la confección.
I place the patterns on the patterned fabric I chose for this project. I prepare the sewing machine with thread in the same base or main color as the fabric, which in this case is black.
This panty design has a single-cut inner section. A seam is made on the straight edge of that piece.
Coloco los patrones en la tela estampada que elegí para este proyecto. Preparo la máquina de coser con hilo del mismo color base o principal de la tela, que en este caso es de color negro.
Este diseño de panty tiene la parte interna para ser cortada una sola vez. Se le realiza una costura en la parte recta de esa pieza.
Now, we place the front and back right sides together at the crotch section, and place the crotch piece on the back side and zigzag stitch. This way, when we finish that seam, we open the crotch piece toward the front, and as you can see, everything is tucked in both inside and out. This is the simplest way to make the crotch, but the pattern design must be indicated, otherwise, the process is completely different, and so is the pattern.
Ahora enfrentamos derecho con derecho de la parte delantera y trasera en la parte de la entrepierna, y colocamos la pieza llamada entrepierna del lado de la parte trasera y pasamos costura zig zag. De esta forma al terminar esa costura abrimos la pieza que se llama entrepierna hacia la parte delantera y como pueden ver todo queda guardado tanto por dentro como por fuera. Es la forma más sencilla de realizar la entrepierna, pero debe estar el diseño del patronaje indicado que es así el diseño, de lo contrario el proceso es totalmente diferente y el patrón también.
So far, the pantyhose looks like this; I really like the design of this model.
Hasta ahora la panty se ve de esta forma, me gusta mucho el diseño de este modelo.
I'm going to apply split elastic, or bias elastic as it's known here. I start by placing the elastic on the legs. Only the elastic stretches a little; the fabric doesn't. I zigzag stitch, being very careful, as it needs to grip the edge that goes toward the fabric.
Voy a aplicar elástico partido o sesgo elástico como se conoce aquí. Empiezo colocando el elástico en las piernas, se estira un poco solo el elástico, la tela no se estira, y paso costura zig zag, con mucho cuidado ya que debe agarran bien el borde que va hacia la tela.
Now I close one of the sides, making sure they're even and that the ends of the leg elastics match up properly. To do this, I like to use a pin. I sew a zigzag stitch, then a straight stitch next to the zigzag stitch. This simulates an overlock stitch.
Another important detail is to make a few safety stitches where the elastic ends and meet, to ensure they don't come undone. Now, I also add the elastic bias binding to the waistband, and then I close the missing end or side. All of this, repeating the same technique I did before.
Ahora cierro uno de los lados, me aseguro que vayan a quedar bien parejos y que coincidan bien las puntas de las elásticas de la pierna, para ello me gusta ayudarme de un alfiler, y paso costura zig zag y luego costura recta al lado de ese zig zag, esto es para simular a la overlock.
Otro detalle importante es realizar unas puntadas de seguridad donde terminaron y coincidieron las elásticas, para garantizar que no se van a descoser. Y ahora se coloca el sesgo elástico también en la parte de la cintura, y luego cierro el extremo o costado que faltaba. Todo repitiendo la misma técnica que ya hice.
The pantyhose is ready. One aspect I like to achieve is what the teacher called "Commercial Appearance" in the course. The pantyhose should look their best, as if they were commercially available and not something we made at home.
For example, the finishing touches I mentioned, such as ensuring the elastic bands fit perfectly, that the seams are well placed and even, and that when we have the pantyhose on the table, they don't curl or look badly shaped. We need to give it that quality by taking care of every detail.
Está lista la panty, Un aspecto que me gusta lograr es lo que en el curso la profesora decía "Apariencia Comercial" y es que la panty debe quedar con el mejor aspecto, como si fuese comercial y no algo que hicimos en casa.
Por ejemplo los acabados que mencioné como que coincidan perfectas las elásticas, que la costura esté bien ubicada y pareja, y que cuando tengamos la panty en la mesa no se curve o se vea mal formada. Hay que darle esa Calidad cuidando todos los detalles.
