Nomad traveling in a van, experiencing life as a true adventure
Netherlands, Germany, Portugal
During my travels, I visit a lot of things. One of my favorite things to discover is URBEX, abandoned buildings. It can be anything, from an old house to a factory. From a haunted hotel to a never finished resort. Mostly these places are also full of graffiti art. What is it that I like so much about these locations? Why do I feel attracted to these lost places? Yesterday I was siting on a dune, watching the sunset. I turned around and looked at some abandoned structures. There was wall art on it. One of the graffiti parts had the word ‘love’ in it, something I feel like needing at the moment. It made me think…
Google is sending me push messages with “Remember this 3 years ago…” I look at those pictures, when I just bought my converted camper van and started the first trip. What a difference. I was happy, excited and curious. My hair was still black. I had dreams and plans. It started pretty good, life was good. Life was kind of perfect. I learned how to catch waves at the right moment quite easily.
Discovering new places, meeting new people. These are some of my favorite activities. These are also some of the reasons why I like traveling that much. Especially when you feel a special connection, an intense feeling when you meet someone. While exploring a new area, I bumped into two birds. They both impressed me. Not only with their beauty, they had a very intense vibe that attracted me.
At the moment, every day is full of walking. From time to time I drive to a different location and from there hikes are made. I am happy the stomach is better again, because a lot of dirt roads are bumpy: deep potholes and lots of loose rocks. Wednesday it was time for one of the last parts of the Fishermen's Trail, which is part of the longer Rota Vicentina. The route along one om the most beautiful coastlines. We share a similar name; Rota Vicentina, Vincent, Vin Diesel...rough, though and beautiful.
There is still list of unfinished stories ready to be written. Today I will talk about another unfinished story. If you just woke up and still need to get breakfast, wait with reading. I’ve been in Portugal many times and heard a few stories about my temporary destination, I finally had the change to experience it. It’s part of Vanlife and we Vanlifers like to check out other vans. I did, and the driver made me sick.
As some of you might know, I've spend the last 6 months in Germany. A bit more in the last 12 months to be honest. My girlfriend is German. Since the beginning our communication is in English, so we both have to speak a foreign language. When I am outside in the city, I speak a bit of German. The neighbours talk English with me. From the beginning I mentioned I understand German for around 80% of the time and speaking is a bit difficult. Last week I was digitalizing some old VHS tapes and an old German book from high school popped up...
