On the road
After several boring but productive days running on the nearby roads it was time for some welcome (and much tougher)trail mileage There were already mountain bikers hitting the trail when I started but they're easy enough to pass on the trails. The first couple of miles were slooooow as my legs were feeling the effects of my recent fasting routine plus it was a steady climb towards the Javelina trailhead but soon enough it was time for a more relaxed rolling descent for the next 4 or so miles. After a short leg on the wide open Javelina Trail it was back onto the final winding and quick paced track to the finish. A relaxing loop on the Metate Trail up in Granite Basin later in the afternoon with Lulu was a wonderful finish to the day.
Not the best of runs as my new regime of intermittent fasting has left me a bit lower in energy but my metabolism and weight are improving so not a worry.I was only able to run a decent 5 and a half miles around the area before heading home. My pace wasn't too bad and once I hit the dirt after the first mile my mood was good. Finished off at Lynx Lake for a bit of slippery hike along the paved path. The higher altitude means there's still some decent snow on the ground but there were plenty of people out hiking as well (and Lulu got to chase a squirrel). Hopefully next week will continue to be good.
A new month is here and my training continues to go well and now I'm 2 weeks away from the Jackpot 100 miler. The last bit of snow lingers on in the shadows and higher mountains but warmer weather is forecast and I was able to run in shorts and sweatshirt. Despite my recent restart to regular Intermittent Fasting (time restricted eating over a 4 or 6 hour window) my energy was good and the running easy. Although my pace and mileage are down a bit at this point I'm just maintaining for the 100 miler and concentrating on a more healthy diet and lifestyle. Finished up with a couple of miles at Granite Basin which made Lulu very happy 馃槉.
A bit of light snow overnight with freezing temperatures left the area with a pretty coating of soft white which was beautiful although it made the footing just a tad slippery for my run. Fortunately the ground wasn't too frigid so after 3 miles around the neighborhood I was able to head up the hills onto some more challenging roads. A bit slushy but without any wind the conditions weren't that bad. I managed decent paced miles and my legs felt good for an 8 mile total which is fine with just a couple of weeks until my hundred miler in Nevada. This report was published via Actifit app (Android). Well, my Actifit app decided not to work (yet again 馃が馃が馃が) so it's back to posting on Hive again. Old Man Winter paid us a visit overnight but left us with only an inch or so of fluffy snow that would soon melt away but it was nice while it lasted. Lulu was ready to and have some fun while the snow lasted and was off like a shot as we walked along the snow-covered field. Nice to see that our footsteps were the only ones to be found in the new fallen snow. I waited a bit so that the icy sidewalks had a chance to melt a bit before heading out for a shorter run today (plus an hour under the sauna blanket came first). I felt a bit tired and sluggish compared to the last few days and my pace was definitely off as well as my diet sucked today. Anyhow, I was at least able to put in a bit over 5 miles and hopefully things will be better tomorrow (and maybe the app will work at last.
After a couple of days of snow in the forecast, Old Man Winter finally decided to make an appearance (albeit it didnt amount to much). There were a few flakes of snow in the air for our morning walk but other than damp roads it amounted to nothing. The snow flurries came and went quickly and we finished our walk under sunny skies. My legs were better today although I wasn't interested in pushing a fast pace as my 100 miler is just over 2 weeks away and I just want to keep up decent mileage and not over extend myself and head to the race with fatigued legs. 3 miles looping on the flat roads and then it was onto the dirt field for the rest of my miles. On and off flurries made the run interesting even if I had to wear a fleece jacket and running pants. I finished with just over 7 slower miles but felt good and then enjoyed a nice hour under my sauna blanket. Lulu finally got to enjoy at least a little time in the snow with a couple of miles at Lynx Lake.
