One faithful day, I was on the Hive platform, and my sister happened to have a peek at what I was doing. She got interested. She said she noticed I have been writing a lot lately, and she really wanted to know what hive is all about.
I took that opportunity to preach about hive to her. I told her that hive is a platform where you work hard. Hive is indeed an amazing platform where one earns, but one has to put in effort to earn.
One thing about hive is that it is not just a blogging platform, it is a learning platform as well.
On hive, you write and get curated. That's how you earn. I made her understand that to get curated more, she has to make quality posts. Post quality is a crucial factor on hive.
The more one continues to churn out well written posts, the more the chances of getting curated. The more curation one has, the more one earns. Of course, I made her understand what curation is all about. I explained to her that curation simply means getting upvoted by someone.
If she gets upvoted by an account with higher hive power, she will earn more.
It was a lot of information for her to absorb at a time, so I tried my best to explain things slowly and clearly.
I further told her that earning on hive is in Cryptocurrency. Posts will be viable for 7 days, after which, it pays out and the earnings will be available in Hive Backed Dollars (HBD). The hive backed dollars is usually converted to hive and then used.
I informed my sister about communities on hive. There are several communities on the hive platform, each with their own ideologies. There are different communities for different countries, just like the Hive Naija community, which is a Nigerian community. Furthermore, there are communities that deal with fictional stories only. There are also communities that accept only posts about movies.
Some communities are about gardening, inspirational posts or even craft. In fact, there is a community for almost every topic on hive. So, she can choose to post in any community she resonates with.
I also told her about the basic dos and don'ts on the hive platform. I made it clear to her that plagiarism of whatever kind is prohibited. Most communities frown at it. It is unacceptable and people caught doing it are usually warned and punished. Images used should be properly if they are not yours. Furthermore, I told her that using AI to generate content is also prohibited.
Originality is very much appreciated on hive. Originality, as well as quality are the two basic things that are usually considered on hive.
After my entire explanation and preaching, she was convinced about the legitimacy of hive. She also understood that hive is in no way a get rich quick scheme. Ultimately, she decided that she will join the hive platform as soon as she can.
Of course, I'm always available to guide her through the onboarding process. With my help, I believe she would have a smooth entry into the hive ecosystem.
