“It's hard to build momentum if you're dividing your attention.”

James Clear

Yet another concise but great quote by James Clear. This one really hits home as I have recently made a lot of changes to my life based on this very principle.

I found myself spread too thin with many things going on at the same time: my job, my business, my investments, and the many Hive projects I was involved in. I was overwhelmed by the amount of things I was supposed to manage.

Now, I'm a project manager with over a decade of experience but even for me it was becoming too much.

It was getting hard to get all of those things to take off so I needed to do something about it. What I landed on was a mix of prioritization, delegation and termination. Actually, I never thought about putting it into these 3 words until now and I really like how it sounds!

Prioritization, delegation and termination.

I started by prioritizing my attention where it is really needed, meaning things that are really important and I don't think anyone else but me can do. Then, I started delegating everything I could such as, for example, some of my portfolio, which I delegated to an assets manager. I have to pay him a fee but in the long run, it will be worth it to be able to get those out of my radar.

And finally, the things that were not important enough to be prioritized and not possible to delegate, I terminated. It's not always easy because in some cases there is some emotional attachment involved but a necessary step on building momentum.
