Last week Mochi was due for castration

But he was not going to get trapped inside the carrier, instead, he went in, took the food, and quickly moved out again before we could even close the door. He was not entering the carrier fully simply because he didn’t need to, he’s big enough to take the food and eat it somewhere comfortable, anywhere but inside the carrier, lol.
Thankfully they were very kind to let us come in whenever we could get him in the carrier and we tried adding toys inside as well as feeding him in the carrier for several days, yet he stayed very hesitant to go in. I didn’t see it happening anytime soon. On top of that, every failed attempt of us closing the carrier would add more stress which was not our intention.

We applied to become foster parents

Kitten foster care that is! We are looking for a buddy for Mochi who will motivate him to play more during the day as this is the only time he’s truly happy with his tail up and it’s adorable to see. I want him to be happy more often and we think giving him a play buddy will help him come out of his shelf. But we don’t want to end up adopting another kitten that turns out to be a bad match, we love Mochi, even while he’s super scared still, he is who he is, but when adopting another one, we want to make sure it’s one we can cuddle with and won’t fear hands or humans in general.
We have the experience of socializing and taking care of three litters in the past and they all turned out super cool kittens. So instead of just adopting a kitten and hoping for the best, we decided to help out with the huge problem of the many kittens being born here on the streets. They are in big need of foster families and we all want to help out. Instead of just saving one kitten, we will help take care of as many as needed (not all at once obviously), and once the right match appears, we will adopt this one.
We applied and got a very good response back that we were accepted and the only thing we needed to do now is get Mochi to the vet as well as have him tested for Feline immunodeficiency virus (IVF) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV) because they have all animals tested for this. If Mochi doesn’t test positive for these, we will probably see some kittens come our way very soon as the foster families as well as volunteers are overloaded with kittens in need. It’s very sad to see people but I’m glad we will be able to help out with some of them.

In need of a trap

Today I asked the kind lady who lent us the trap last time if we could borrow it again and she said sure come and pick it up. We picked it up after I checked with the vet if Mochi was welcome today, which was the case thankfully. One moment he was sleeping on the couch and the other moment he smelled some pate so we got his attention. He quickly moved from the couch to explore the trap.
He deserves more credit than we give him because even with this long trap, he still managed to maneuver his way inside to the back, grabbing the food without even touching the part that locks him in. He just walked out as if nothing happened, haha. He must have been very hungry because he went in again not long after, my boyfriend manually closed the trap with a little thread attached to it so he wouldn’t walk out again. I felt bad for him feeling trapped but what else can we do if he doesn't want us to touch him and he needs to be seen by the vet? Poor guy.

Thankful

I’m so thankful that these people are caring about the animals in need and that they are willing to lend these traps to strangers for who they know nothing but their phone numbers. It’s amazing that they all work together to take care of these creatures and are so caring even if they’re overloaded by feeding kittens clock round.
It was unexpected but probably because they saw a bit of food in the trap (it was the only way to lure him in) when the vet told us he’d be there until tomorrow. We will pick him up in the afternoon and hope he’s all well as well as doesn’t have any of the two diseases they tested him for. I felt sad for him being trapped in the cage but we asked to place him in the carrier tomorrow so he’s not too stressed about it.
Hopefully, we get back our handsome fella in one piece and we can set the fostering into motion. We are excited!
