Highlighting @happy080, with the story:
My heart skipped. An actual amazing laptop; I had desired one for so long. A real art kit: brushes, paints, a sketchbook, and a variety of color types—the kind I'd only ever seen in online catalogs. And a scholarship to go with it! "This would mean alot to me and lessen the financial burden for my parents," I thought out loud, so I quickly wrote my name on the sign-up sheet before doubt could eventually creep in.
Curator's comment :
Happy080 writes a wonderful CNF packed with self-deprecating humor. The piece is nicely structured with scintillating dialogue and well drawn characters.
Highlighting @ daeze-winnie, with the story:
That night, I laid on my bed and I had put my phone on Do-Not-Disturb. I was avoiding replying to messages. A part of me wanted to just scream at her; like send her a voice note soaked in rage. But there was another part of me that had grown up watching people reveal their true self in the worst moments. That part of me just felt... sad.
Curator's comment :
Daeze-winnie's 'Sour Grapes' story has the charm of offering a life lesson without lecturing, or preaching. She offers her experience as the lesson plan, in which she learned to be cheerful and upbeat, but not to be entirely forthcoming. A scheming friend betrays her. This 'friend' obviously resented daeze-winnie's ability to make friends easily. Like a snake in the grass, this friend turned on the author. This piece is well written, measured, and wise.
The phrase "smell a rat" means to be suspicious that something is wrong, almost as if by a sixth sense.
