Some Harry Potter Silver Kicking Off Nineties Friday!

2025-03-07T20:39:15
Back in 1997, J. K. Rowling published a book that created a whole new fantasy world that changed a generation. It was Harry Potter and Philosopher's Stone, released a year later in the United States under the name Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. It quickly became one of the best selling books in the world along with all the sequels in the following years. Not to mention the movies...
It made J. K. Rowling richer than the Queen of England, just imagine having that kind of portfolio to manage! But it all started back in the 1990's, a decade that now in considered vintage according to my niece! To launch into a Nineties Friday this week I am using not the book, but a silver coin commemorating the first Harry Potter book.
This is 2 Troy ounces of solid silver produced by the island nation of Niue, a true paradise in the South Pacific. Believe it or not, this is actually a coin, here's the reverse:

As you can see only 1,000 of these will be made and they will be numbered. However, at a price of $229.99 a piece a bit more than I would be willing to pay!
They are making a new Harry Potter movie and the fist confirmed actor is John Lithgow playing Professor Dumbledore. Just in case you are interested! Here's a poster for the first movie, the version from the UK by the title.

Now for a bit about #ninetiesfriday, it was started by @geneeverett and you can share anything about the decade of the 1990's. So today I'll jump in and share some fun music from the decade. A mix of some different stuff and I'm sure you'll find something you like!

Metallica

These heavy metal legends formed in Los Angeles, California in 1981 and have been producing hit music ever since. They moved into more mainstream music with their black album released in 1991. The album took over a year to produce and cost well over one million dollars. Two band members credit the album for divorces. But it was a huge best seller, here's "Wherever I May Roam" off the same album:

Live

These guys came together as a band in 1984 in York, Pennsylvania. They finally found mainstream success with their album "Throwing Copper" ten years later in 1994. Not always easy finding success in the music world, that much is for sure. Here is "I Alone" off that same album:

Red Hot Chili Peppers

These guys formed as a band in 1982 and I've been a fan since the late 1980's. They have produced many albums over the years but they were plagued by drug abuse throughout the 1980's. Their breakout album came in 1991 with "Blood Sugar Sex Magik", and this song "Give It Away" came off the same ablum:

No Doubt

This band formed in Anaheim, California in 1986. Yes, that is where Disneyland is located as well. They started as a ska/ punk band and kept to their roots throughout most of their career. "Tragic Kingdom" was their breakout album in 1995 making them a household name. This is "Sunday Morning" off the same album:

I spent most of the 1990's living in South America and the Caribbean speaking Spanihs, so I always like to throw in a song or two that was a huge hit during that era in Spanish as well.

Thalia

Thalia started her musical entertainment career very early as part of a band know as Timbiriche that was heavily promoted on Mexican television in the 1980's. It launched her career as an actress and singer throughout the 1990's and early 2000's. She became an international superstar after her record "En éxtasis" (In Ecstasy) in 1995. This song is off a later album but still a lot fun, this is "Por Amor" (For Love):
That will wrap up this week's edition of Nineties Friday. It's been a few weeks since I've put one together, so today was the day to create a new one. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thank you everyone for all of your support. It's deeply appreciated. Have a great weekend everyone!
