Finally, A New Sidewalk Entry - by Sunscape

This past winter was very harsh and the sidewalk that leads to the front door of our home had heaved badly and cracked in many places. I guess after being in for almost 60 years, I'd start cracking too! lol
I didn't realize how bad it was until I tripped and took a nasty fall this spring. I told my husband it was time to get it taken care of before someone really got hurt.
This is a landscaper that actually lived two houses down the street from me. I ran into him by chance three weeks ago and asked him if he would come and redo the sidewalk.
Three days later he called and came over to give us an estimate. He couldn't start a patio project for one of his clients due to the excessive rain. So, he got us in asap.
Before I knew it the old concrete was broken up and on the back of the dump truck.
It didn't take him long to put down the fine gravel, level and tamp it, when it started to sprinkle. He left to dump the concrete and pick up the pallet of bricks for the pathway.
I chose a mix of gray and rust colored stone in different sizes. I gave him artistic leeway to put it down however he felt would look the best. He is of course the expert.
Thankfully, by the time he got back with the stone the rain had stopped, and the sun came out. He was happy to be able to finish the job in one day instead of two like he thought.
Once the stonework was laid down, he filled the cracks with a special sand that hardens like concrete when watered. He said it will keep the ants and weeds from getting in between the bricks.
I am so pleased at how nice it came out and that he accomplished the whole path in one day all by himself. I have a feeling his muscles were aching that evening.
Now that the path is lightly watered to seal the sand in, we will stay off it for a few days. Once the rain stops, I will be able to sweep the path and mulch the garden too.
It feels so nice to have a safe walkway and it gives the house some nice curb appeal too! Have a wonderful week everyone, hugs and peace to all.
